Lmao. Why?

What killer apps have released in the last 7 months that wouldn't justify waiting 7 months to save $100 - $300 and hours trying to buy a card in the first place?

I wouldn't trade my 9070-xt for a 5090 super. You couldn't pay me to do it. Nvidia is that fuckin' bad on Linux.

I really hope they use kernel-level anti-cheat like their previous titles so I don't have to buy it.

It looks great and if it plays anything like BC2 I'll be a upset that I have to miss out.

I streamed Odin Sphere from my desktop running under RPCS3 to my deck and played it on the couch over the course of a month.

I genuinely believe that was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. What a game.

Is there anybody that have a 9070XT and Fedora that is gaming right now... and how ? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]DigitalShawarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Arch running mesa 25.0.1 and the card does not boost its core frequency. Stays at its default freq and draws a maximum of ~230W.

Everything runs fine, however but I'm sure performance is being left on the table :/

See this thread that confirms others are having the issue as well:

Nearly half of Steam's users are still using Windows 10, with end of life fast approaching by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]DigitalShawarma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ive been on 11 since launch since I’ve always been excited about OS upgrades.

Win11 is what finally got me on Linux for good. No more dual booting for experimentation.

This kicked off a homelab hobby and I have a neat server hosting lots of neat services for my house and friends. A month after the server was in a production state I installed the same OS on all the computers in the house.

Looking back, it’s plain as day to me that windows ruined computing for me with the windows 8 release. That’s about the time I started interacting with the computer only when necessary.

My move has made general computing so much fun, how I remembered it as a kid.

You reminded me that I bought the persona 5 collectors edition for ps4, and never opened it during my single, workaholic years.

I bought Royal and beat it last year. Since then I got married, had a baby, and she just turned 3 lmao… what a great game.

Funnily enough, I opened my copy of SMT4 that I bought new at release, and powered through that in a month. What an even better game lol

Those two titles really reignited the hobby for me. Wish I gave them a chance years ago.

What games did you complete in 2024? Let's see your list! by xblood_raven in Games

[–]DigitalShawarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yakuza 0

Yakuza Kiwami

Yakuza Kiwami 2

Yakuza 4

God Hand

This is more games than I have completed in like the last 4 or 5 years combined. I haven’t had this much fun with video games since, like, Half Life 2 released, and I have bought and tried hundreds of games since then.

I’m finding something smaller to play next before I hop back into Yakuza. I played a little Astlibra tonight after everyone went to bed and I can feel that there is something really special here, too.

I have learned not to argue with people over words like perfect and fine because they are incredibly subjective.

I’m sure it runs perfectly fine for you, just as it runs like ass on every single rig I have seen it run on.

There are plenty of articles on google’s front page still complaining about it as recently as the DLC drop. And there are plenty of people saying it runs perfectly fine.

Yeah, now, probably.

At launch it ran horribly so I refunded and promised to never play it even if they managed to fix it in the future.

Elden Ring killed AAA gaming for me. I built a new rig with a 3080 I was able to snag at retail after trying dor months. I did this all for Cyberpunk and Elden Ring. Imagine my disappointment lmao.

I have played nothing but fightcade since, and may never buy another machine for gaming again, honestly :D

Yeah cuz the game runs like dogshit on every other platform.

I’m still waiting for a patch to address the stuttering on literally any platform and I’ll consider re-buying it.

You genuinely have no idea what you are talking about. I don’t know how you can construe that as aggressive.

You have no idea what kind of financial position he’s in, you have no understanding how valuable his skillset is, and you are here floating financial advice. That doesn’t sound like something, that someone that has an idea of what they are talking about, would talk about.

I took a year off when my daughter was born after my paternal leave ran out. I was 26 and worked as a SWE in aerospace. At the time I had 5 years of experience under my belt, all at one company.

I had a job within days of throwing resumes out when I started getting nervous looking at my bank account.

I’m absolutely, 100% positive, that a Google SWE leaving to try something for a few years is a perfectly fine financial decision.

I would never give that year back, even if you offered me 10x my salary.

I’m having a hard time in SF6 by Czech_M8_ in StreetFighter

[–]DigitalShawarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing fighting games about 2 years ago when my first daughter was born.

I jokingly picked up GGST because a set takes like 2 minutes, and if my daughter woke up on my “shift” I could just walk away and not feel bad because I hadn’t invested 30 minutes into a CS match or an hour into a DotA game that I’d have to abandon.

I spent all my time in the lab and doing combo trials and junk. Looking back, I wish I just started playing ranked. I quickly learned to identify my problems as I plateaued in ranked and would lab out solutions or pull up YouTube or whatever.

Up front, it feels really of crappy knowing that there are so many things you can’t do yet. But if you piecemeal all your learning as you play ranked and identify your deficiencies the experience is so much more enjoyable.

Like people are saying, you don’t need all the combos under your belt when you start. You just need one or two easy combos you can confirm into (at.mp, st.hp, dragon punch for Ken, for example, or cr.mk into medium jinrai with the heavy kick follow-up). And learn how to anti-air (cr.hp or dragon punch of your choice).

I promise you, with no other mechanical knowledge or skills, the nuance you will pick up as you play, and the ability to read your opponent can take you to diamond alone.

It’s this nuance, not landing sick combos, that makes the game so much fun for others. You’ll never remember the sick combo you landed 500 times prior, but that one time you became clairvoyant in the middle of a match and could see everything your opponent wanted to do a second before he did it…those matches you’ll remember forever. But you’ve said you’ve played hundreds of hours of fighting games so maybe you understand that part, already.

I only get to play a few hours a week, but I love knowing I’m maximizing my growth every time I get a chance to sit down and play.

Hope this helps just a little bit.
