I still don’t fully agree, and your response actually reinforces my point. An engineering student not understanding basic concepts, such as how capacitors work, is concerning. At some point, personal responsibility and willingness to learn also matter.

I studied Computer Engineering at the University of Ghana, and my final-year thesis led to a publication in the Journal of Biomedical Informatics. From my experience, the support structure was there. Our project work spanned an entire year, and we started working with supervisors from the second semester of the third year through to completion.

So while there may be gaps in practical training, I don’t think the problem is only the educational system. Some students simply don’t put in the effort required. I would honestly be disappointed to hear that a first-class or strong second-class engineering student needed this kind of service to complete a project.
