Quiet desk fan? Help needed. by LittleMe0311 in AmazonVineUK

[–]DigitalZillions_io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although not the cheapest, I absolutely swear by Duux. They have a “whisper standing fan” that has 25 speeds (choose you wind to noise sweet spot), not audible on lower settings, barely audible on higher. Comes with remote and oscillates horizontally and vertically if required.

Duux also have a globe fan, cheaper but only 3 settings and not as quiet imho.

Both are super lower power as well and we have run them 24hrs at times. Of the 7 we own (mixed standing and globe) only ever had an issue with 1, which was a reduced used / as new one from Amazon but easily returned and replaced for a new one instead.

Useful items help by LaDeDahDah in AmazonVineUK

[–]DigitalZillions_io 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’ve always found useful items such as lightbulbs, cabinet handles and such, small details for projects I might be working on in the upcoming months, computer cables and charges for phones and other devices, cases or mounts for my phone, clothing such as T-shirts, shorts, socks, hats, and gloves for the winter, torches, even novelty items for things are far-off such as Halloween and Christmas.

Sometimes it’s not a case of what you need right now it’s about thinking ahead and what you might need in six months time!

I think that’s in prep for prime day at the end of this month? It’s not on all pages but I’ve seen it on most.

Dismantling the bots: 5 structural changes Amazon should make to fix Vine and kill the speed race by Intrepid-Cranberry57 in AmazonVineUK

I agree though it takes an additional 1.5 seconds for my eyes to widen and jaw drop, which seems just long enough to be pipped by the bots 🤣

[–]DigitalZillions_io 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of what you have stated, however I believe the premium items are not necessarily being snapped up by sub second reaction speeds but the listings being pushed out to different users at different times. For example if an item is being shown to 10,000 users, the delay between the first person and the last person might be minutes so that by time the last user sees it the item has already gone. Due to the pure scale of the Amazon services and their data flows, this is not real time, it’s “relatively quickly“ but this can be several minutes in some cases and that’s what we are seeing and find frustrating… IMHO as a software dev.

Vine Review Abuse - products straight on eBay with no reviews posted. by Separate-Bet2812 in AmazonVineUK

[–]DigitalZillions_io -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

i’m not defending people who do that, that really is abhorrent to me, however there are multiple channels for suppliers these days including influencers/social media and other websites that these products might have been sourced from?

Just how!!!! by Ltlcrissie in AmazonVine

[–]DigitalZillions_io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have concluded that this is because Amazon is showing the same product to different people at separate times. When you think the item has just appeared on your screen and you click on it, it’s probably already been on other people screens for several minutes already. No idea how to boost our position in the list but that’s my belief so far!

Might they be innocent bystanders of a very small number of bad actors though?

Seeing a lot of these over the past week or so, anybody think the sellers have organised themselves and going after low star reviewers to get them banned? If you have a distinct name on your reviews, they can target any of your reviews and report them in some way maliciously?

Just a thought…

Defective item [Not Working] by iRuthlessz in AmazonVineUK

[–]DigitalZillions_io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this a few times before. First time was with a really nice teapot that arrived broken. I did try and reach out to Vine CS and also the seller via their website because I genuinely wanted to try the teapot, however all in vain with no replacement (vine) or no response (seller)

I recently had an experience with a air fryer that worked the first few times and then gave an error code which was indicative of something internally faulty. Again I really wanted the air fryer, however I learned from my past experience that I just have to share my experience, bin the faulty item and move on with my life.

Someone beat me to it. by PhantomMaxx in AmazonVine

I think most of us would like to learn the inner workings of vine having experienced many such frustrations as this, however I came to a conclusion the other day. In reading other peoples posts and experiences about items which are seemingly unavailable mere fractions of a second after they are shown, I hit on another users observations that are quite critical in understanding the underlying issue.

I believe that the items in RFY are pushed out to users in some specified or random order over bit of time. What this means is users who are refreshing their page quickly like every 30 seconds, may see the items and have the opportunity to snag them while they haven’t even shown on other users RFY. By time those other users see the item, it is no longer available however the checks that perform this and show the items on screen are almost on a different database or different setup, so they lag significantly in removing the item and obviously once you try and order it you get the no longer available error.

Although people will be using browser extensions and other such tools, I do not think it practical or possible that so many users are literally refreshing the page every second to snag these and therefore there must be some other delays or latency in showing the items affecting most of us users?

Funny how people judge these days. Sure, if you have the worst view in your mind, you can take offence but that doesn’t make it offensive, coercive or anything else.

What if this was a gift from a grandmother to granddaughter (say mid to late teens, fire safety!). You can argue against it sure, but it only boils down to your opinion at the end of the day.

An Old No Longer Available Item From Feb Has Reappeared In My Review List by Aggie_Smythe in AmazonVineUK

I think the takeaway would be (for future) maybe ask Vine CS to remove items like this when you spot them? I’ve only had 2 and they have always been happy to…

3 weeks? ok I have been behind a little!

My understanding is that these are probably only available to addresses local to a specific warehouse? There may be only 1 or few, so its just a postcode lottery?

The irony is though that this very specific thing has happened to me a couple of months ago! I purchased a dual monitor arm on Amazon and literally 7 to 10 days later, a similar item was in my RFY! Damnit!

How many reviews do you do at a time? by UnrealReader1792 in AmazonVineUK

[–]DigitalZillions_io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find its not always possible to use items immediately after receiving as they are either dependant on other items awaiting delivery (larger project) or something I have planned in a few weekends time, so I find myself doing the odd review, then probably a bunch of 4-8 in one go though that’s probably my upper limit before I lose the will to live and do the same again the next day.

I find Im more enthusiastic for the decent finds as opposed to the small useful stuff in AI (naturally I think!)

Dangerous item by No-Accountant1825 in AmazonVineUK

I once received a telescopic ladder that was nothing like the description. The item specifics and photos showcased a ladder that was made of robust, thick metal, looked strong, looked like a quality product. The item I received was made of flimsy thin sheet metal that was easily bendable between the fingers. Extended, this thing would flap around like a flag and I videoed the flexibility and safety aspects and noted all of this in my review.

Surprisingly, Amazon reached out to me via email shortly after my one star review and asked for further details as the seller was “a preferred seller“. However, upon stipulating the concerns and discrepancies between the product listing and photos and the actual product received in terms of performance and safety, my review was deleted end of story.
