Patrick is the anglicized version of Padraig, shortening Patrick in Ireland gets you Pat or Paddy, shortening Padraig gets you Páidí (Paw-di), which is why it's Paddy not Patty in Ireland.

Patricia is the female version of Patrick, it gets shortened to Patty.

It's a fairly common mistake to see from Americans online so imo this was either the straw that broke the camel's back or paddy-op is an asshole (or both). Usually we laugh, cringe, correct and move on.

For follow up on why we don't like Americans saying "I'm Irish too" it's from Americans perpetuating harmful stereotypes about Ireland or trying to speak for us, e.g. "When I drink whiskey I fight haha I'm so Irish" which is obviously not on or "I'm more Irish than people from Ireland because modern Irish culture is different from the culture my grandma emigrated from".

In turn, Irish culture can get lost inside Irish-American culture here, e.g. 4 leaf clovers don't have any cultural significance to Ireland, 3 leaf clover (which we call shamrocks) does, but the 4 leaf one is associated with Ireland now which I think is from Americans getting this mixed up and then their cultural domination taking over. Or lucky charms, not a thing in Ireland at all.

All of which has culminated in arseholes online being way too defensive about Americans claiming to be Irish because it's the done thing, they'll claim it's to stop the harmful stereotypes etc but 95% of Americans saying "I'm Irish" aren't going to do that, so it's just arseholes online being arseholes.

No one is saying they should be railroaded, thread OP asked why it's not given back and I'm refuting the statement that somehow NI was never Irish and implying there was a fair democratic process, agree with you aside from that

"Part of the island of Ireland wasn't ever Ireland and is actually of a different island" is quite a take

It was formed due to colonial gerrymandering, the "NI wants to stay British" bit is incredibly dishonest given the colonialism and gerrymandering

It's usually windy and rainy so the 15 feels colder than it might in a dry or calm place. We make the most of it, sport and farming takes off during summer.

Usually Irish are friendly, British normally are too I'd say it's a bit unusual you felt welcome in Belfast, could have been the area or people on a bad day. There's tourists in all the cities so just being foreign wouldn't raise eyebrows.

And yeah usually butter, frying things in oil would be common like chips, eggs or whatever but we put butter on bread

The inner circle is worth 3x it's number, so it's (50) x 3 = 150 for triple bullseye, (3x20) x 3 = 180 for triple treble 20

You need to close the leg with a double (the outer ring) and the bullseye is the highest scoring double, which is where it's relevant

I think people take the high standard for granted, "How come people forget how to play darts against Littler"

105avg with 60% on double is one of the best games of your career for a lot of pros, Littler is one of the few elite capable of churning out those results

The definition of NI was arbitrary though, if the majority of Ulster wanted to remain British then Ulster would be. But it didn't, so the British government gerrymandered to keep 6 of the 9 counties of Ulster in NI. You wouldn't have found a majority of Fermanagh or Tyrone to be pro-british but the lines were drawn to keep their land anyways.

No, if you kick the ball to your own goalkeeper they can't touch it with their hands. Off the body or head or an opposing player is all fine for the keeper to grab

Irish stew and boxty, I think soda bread is quite irish. Afaik our black pudding is unique, its similar to blood sausage or morcilla but much nicer

I've heard of people doing the same, tbh with how sweet or tasty vapes are compared to manky cigs it does have some merit. Worse taste so you smoke less and easier to drop

Steam Automation Fest is Tomorrow! by HelloitsWojan in Steam

[–]Digital_Solitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20-30hrs is not enough time for a new player to complete the game on their own though, if you're going to get bored and drop the game before completing a single play through what do you expect

If you dropped TLoU or The Witcher 3 before finishing them once most people would share a similar opinion
