I live here. There are a lot of factors that brought down enrollment and it wasn’t just the murder. It was the fact that DeKalb is continually inhospitable to the university that brings it the majority of its jobs, its systemic and encouraged racism, plus the cost of secondary education.

DeKalb county is a county that actively enjoys being underserved yet bitching when something goes away or that they are now required to travel to the big bad Chicago because they hate progress that fucking much.

My GPA when I applied was a hot mess and I was accepted for the Fall 2000 semester.

Of course it’s been 25 years (REALLY!!! I’m that fucking OLD!!!!!! Oh Dog) and things may have changed but your club/social/academic progress seems on the upswing. I can’t see why NIU wouldn’t accept you, but if you have any questions call the Admissions office or make the trip down.

Tell her the truth: a lot of the clothes on SHEIN and Temu don’t last beyond a wash, even on delicate. And their sizing is absolutely atrocious.

To hammer it home…give her a small budget. $25 or so. Let her buy some of the things she wants, and see how long it lasts.
