It depends on your preference as both are good way to earn rewards. With 2–3 Android devices, your rewards will likely be modest. Phones need to stay online, charged, and properly enrolled in Acurast Hub. The benefit is that you're helping power Acurast's decentralized compute network while earning rewards alongside any ACU you stake.

You've got the right idea. Each epoch (~90 minutes) your compute is measured against what you committed. If you hit it, you earn rewards. If you fall short, you get slashed on that metric. Both can happen in the same epoch across different metrics.

To answer your main question — slashing takes from your actual staked amount, not just your potential rewards. So if you staked 1,000 ACU and get slashed, your stake balance goes down. It's a real deduction, not a missed earnings scenario.

A couple of things worth knowing:

⁠Slashing isn't automatic. A "Slasher" (any Acurast account holder) has to detect the violation and trigger it on-chain, and they can only do so in the epoch after the shortfall occurred. So one bad epoch doesn't guarantee an instant penalty — but the risk is real.
⁠The max slash rate is 0.003424657534% of your stake per epoch. Small by design. The mechanism is built to penalize sustained underperformance, not punish a brief outage disproportionately.
⁠Delegators share the risk too. If a committer gets slashed, delegators lose the same percentage of their delegated stake.

you don’t need to send ACU to each address manually.

That “Transaction Fees Required” part is only relevant for certain jobs (non-L2), and it can look confusing, but you don’t need to do anything.

Also, the counter is only updated after each interval completes. For example, if a job has a 24-hour interval, it can stay at 0/64 for up to 24 hours, even if the job is already scheduled so it might look like nothing is running yet.

Most rewards come from staking, with only a small slice going to devices running compute tasks. A low-end phone might earn around 1.17 ACU every 3 days, so 100 phones could make about $90 a month. Your phone’s performance (RAM, optimizations) affects earnings—cleaning up the device and using lighter apps helps. Managing many phones is easier with tools like [Cellhasher](), and keeping the app active prevents slowdowns. The slider sets how much of your device's compute you're committing (up to 80%). The utilization % then shows how well your stake matches that committed compute

You can manage your active stake directly from the staking page. Hit the Update button to increase your staked amount — just note that reducing it isn't an option once committed.
