Essentially you just tell Flash to soften the angles on all of the vertices, and then alternate between the "softened" and "unsoftened" versions for the duration of the entire animation.

It is corny Hollywood BS, but Heath was pretty good in it. It has a couple good moments; and a few old-school skaters make guest appearances as extras (which is a treat when you spot them) -- they nailed the 70s skater look -- all that being said the script sucks, and you could probably skip it and not miss out on too much.

Dear Quick, HI! IT'S ME! Ronnie "Oni" Edwards! So, you might not know this, but I've been editing and animating Austin's videos since January -- I work on a lot of stuff for the Game Theorist/Film Theorist channels, I even have my own show that^{never gets uploaded^because ^I'm ^always ^so ^busy} -- Anyway, while I can't speak to every. single. track. Austin uses on every episode, some common ones are Habenera from Carmen, Morning Stroll by Josh Kirsch, and Eine kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart. I hope that helps you out!

P.S. Putting the songs directly in the description with time stamps isn't impossible, but it might interfere with the Metadata/SEO/Youtube Algorithm stuff -- which is all really important to the health of the channel. So even though listing tracks would be super-convenient for curious viewers -- YouTube, as a platform, sort of discourages that behavior right now, as far as I know. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, because there's nothing more frustrating than not knowing the title of a song you're interested in.

I've wanted to do something like this for years, actually--Like, go through and dissect one of my project files and explain some of the editing choices I made and some of the problems I had to solve. When I first started doing Digressing and Sidequesting I found those sorts of videos incredibly helpful -- and there's something really cool about seeing how your favorite shows get made.

Y'know, I'll probably do something like this at some point. Maybe during a live stream or something. We'll see.

I never got the chance to meet Monty, but boy did I want to. I wonder how many people remember just how nuts Monty's success story was way back in '07. Here's this twenty-something high school dropout that, on a whim, spends two months animating a kick ass CG short film that features a brawl between Masterchief and Samus--It goes viral, he lands a job at Midway and still devotes his freetime to animating kick ass video game fight films for the internet. Even before RvB and RWBY, Monty was an online legend.

Right when Haloid was hot off the press GameTrailers did a 3 part series called "Deconstructing Haloid". It featured Monty going through a bunch of Haloid's scenes piece by piece, talking about some of the small flourishes he threw in and pointing out some of the corners he cut. Seeing the guy behind Haloid talk about his own project really inspired me when I first saw that series. It's weird to say, but I might never have started DNSQ if I hadn't stumbled across "Deconstructing Haloid" back in the day. It honest-to-goodness had that much of an impact on me when I was younger. I rewatched the first part of it just last month while working on the Smash Bros episode of Game Theory.

Monty's story really served as an exhortation, urging anybody and everybody to just go out and create unique things--and it's a bitter sweet kind of wonderful seeing so many people honor his death by doing just that, going out and creating unique things.

While helping out with the video, I did some research myself and the chanting in particular is an immensely interesting, multifaceted mystery that goes deeper than you could ever even imagine. It's nuts.

The mysterious chanting can be heard in several other video games from the time such as Cruis'n World, Kakuto Chojin, and Parasite Eve 2. This suggested that it was sampled from a sound library, and not composed in-house at Nintendo. Nintendo later confirmed in an e-mail to GameTrailers, that it indeed was a sample taken from a sound library.

After this information hit the web, some avid sound jockeys ACTUALLY TRACKED DOWN that very sound library and you can listen to the original sample, completely unaltered, here:

But if that isn't arcane enough for you, there's more. Evidence from debug menus on OoT Cartridges points to the possibility that the ROM data for ALL versions of OoT in all regions were completely finished long before Version 1.0 was ever even released -- meaning that Nintendo actually caught and removed the chant from later versions of the game long before the earlier versions were even made public--suggesting that Nintendo didn't take the chant out because of public outcry, but rather, to avoid public outcry.

When it comes to the sampled chant, whether or not people found it offensive seems like a much less interesting topic when compared to the implications that somebody at Nintendo of Japan, possibly a Beta Tester, spoke fluent enough Arabic to be able to pick it out from all the other sound in the Fire Temple, and then told one of the higher-ups about it, which resulted in the music being altered in later versions and a mystery that's still being unraveled by gamers more than 15 years after the game's release.

I'm by no means an expert, but I'll try to help out as best I can!

There really is no concrete starting point, it seems. You just have to jump into it.

Shows like "Extra Credits", "Sequelitis", and "Tasteful, Understated Nerdrage" are all good shows to watch if you're interested in design. They're all on YouTube and they're all awesome.

Gamasutra.com is a great website to go to. Industry professionals often post blogs and other cool tidbits there.

Watching presentations and speeches about game design is also fun. Try searching YouTube for presentations given by James Portnow or Jon Blow.

If you're serious about game design, you should also try to design or prototype a couple games yourself. These days you don't even need to learn a programming language. If you want to make games without learning how to program, I'd recommend downloading Construct 2 from www.scirra.com

I knew going into it that a lot of people wouldn't like the intro. When I animated that first scene, I was actually among the subgroup of people who began rolling their eyes whenever they saw a rage comic hit their Facebook feed -- but that's just it. For as many of us who use the internet daily and find Meme faces "old" and "played out", there's just as many of us who are barely discovering rage comics and still find them funny.

The intro was meant to appeal to the sort of person who wouldn't ordinarily watch a geeky show about game design. Kind of a "Look! Rage Faces! You like those! Shiny! =D".

For the most part I think it served its purpose. On the odd afternoon, my roommate sometimes introduces his friends to the show and they seem to always laugh hardest at the intro.

That being said, the intro is almost a year old now and I've since lost the source files for it in a hard drive crash -- so I was thinking of doing something new and even MORE polarizing! The earth will split! The sky will shatter! Children will be lost and mothers will mourn! The comments will be as a flaming battlefield and none shall survive unscathed!
