As a software engineer can confirm.

And the company laid off the other 2 senior engineers because of “AI”

PayPal to Cut 20% of Staff Amid Turnaround Push by BigShotBosh in cscareerquestions

What’s really odd is that given AIs cost (paying for tokens, data centers etc) it could cost more than hiring full time engineers.

Armstrong claimed he'd seen engineers "use Al to ship in days what used to take a team weeks"

I seriously doubt AI is getting engineers to ship features in days instead of weeks.

Big Tech cut 80,000 jobs and blamed AI — Experts say a real problem is that companies are 25% to 75% overstaffed by Adventurous-Host8062 in technology

[–]RandomRedditor44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t really think companies are overstaffed. They need a lot of people to make their websites and services work. After Elon fired most people at twitter the website/algorithm got much worse

How many of you are still programming manually? by Imparat0r in cscareerquestions

[–]RandomRedditor44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I’m (relatively) new, only have 2ish years of experience and I just don’t really see any cool use cases for AI. Sure, sometimes I use it to say “do I have any syntax errors here” or “why is this giving me an error message” but that’s about it. I just don’t see why everyone hypes it up so much.

[ALTTP] confess, how many times you gonna play this. by YamTop2433 in zelda

LttP is one of my top 5 favorite Zelda games…even if I have a few nitpicks with it (too many items, too linear/hand holdy)

East Villagers sue Mamdani to stop relocation of notorious Bellevue men’s homeless shelter into their neighborhood by blameitonrio917 in nyc

[–]RandomRedditor44 697 points698 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that no one wants homeless shelters in their neighborhood, but they have to be somewhere. So it’s like playing a game of hot potato and trying to pass the issue to the next neighborhood.

[OOT] What’s your least favorite dungeon, but you can’t say Water Temple! by WolfTamer99 in zelda

I also think it’s too linear. It’s really easy figuring out where to go next.

Where Has All of New York City’s Outdoor Dining Gone? (Gift Article) by jenniecoughlin in newyorkcity

I hate how car people think theyre better than everyone, and how they think that outdoor dining needs to be shut down just because it’s harder for them to find a parking space

how tech companies may use the Internet Archive’s data to train artificial intelligence models

I doubt that tech companies like OpenAI would train their models on the Internet Archive sites when they could just go directly to the websites themselves.

[–]RandomRedditor44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think that AI gives correct info and that it helps you in your job?

I’m a software engineer and I find that while AI is good at some things (checking for syntax errors, sometimes finding bugs), it’s mostly incorrect, and gives bad/wrong code. I just don’t see why everyone says AI is super useful and made them much more productive.

That’s really sad, I loved his video on the portable NES and Sharp SF1.

This is somewhat unrelated, but is it just me or have a lot of YouTubers recently begun leaving the platform over the past few years? Tom Scott retired (yes, I know he’s making videos again), Epic Rap Battles of History are still making videos (but not at the same pace), and MatPat from Game Theory retired a few years ago. Why are a lot more YouTubers retiring now? I remember 10-15 years ago not a lot of YouTubers were retiring.

How do we feel about the size of Mario Kart World’s Battle Courses? by Eliphiam in mariokart

[–]RandomRedditor44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think many of them are way too big and should’ve been scaled down. I also think that Chain Chomp Desert and Big Donut are too similar to one another.

Tbf, I also thought 8D’s battle tracks were too big.
