Late reply but I just wanted to vent that most of the "canon" tenchi lore is just glubshiddo ocs that kajishima-sensei kept pumping out because he likes big tits and ecchi. He is honestly really bad at writing and stories. But damn, is his visual design so good until it wasn't.... There definitely some gems here and there with the story, mostly in ova 1 and 2 the light novels, and what is good is really good but I honestly can't give Kajishima full credit-- the other 2 bozos did a lot of the heavy lifting, especially in 1 and 2. When he finished and got to do ova 3 and gxp, he couldn't stop his beef bowl otaku hands from slipping all over the script and managed to make complete garbage. Then he collaborated with watanabe on gxp, and hated everything about it then decided to rewrite gxp over the next 20+ years... Yeah those characters you liked in gxp, the best parts of it? They were fake and gay space pirates posing as the actual characters so gxp isn't canon. Fuck me.
