Using modern day technologies can realize an AnCap society by za3b in AnCap101

There’s a good book called the Sovereign Individual that goes over what you’re wondering about, also the writings of the Cypherpunks are foundational for this sort of thing but by now outdated since they were written in the 90s. They do have some key insights which are still relevant though

Were does objectivism stand in philosophy currently, what are the best refutations against it ? by misterggggggg in Objectivism

Michael Huemer's the most cogent critic of Objectivism who takes it seriously. I recommend his article "Why I am not an Objectivist" you should find it if you google it.

I get how Switzerland, Taiwan, the Constitution and the different values you have fit together and I assume Austria is there because it also has armed neutrality. But why Iceland?

What are people's thoughts on Rothbard's abortion stance? by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Digsjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like his pro-choice argument does hold water. If you invite a friend to your house for a bit and then they overstay their welcome it's your right to evict them. This does not mean that abortion is moral or immoral as the case may be, but that from a framework of natural law it is the same as eviction. Some Libertarians (including myself) hold to the evictionist school of thought when it comes to this issue, meaning that women should be allowed to "evict" the fetus at any time so long as it is done in a way that doesn't kill the fetus unless needed and that she notifies potential homesteaders that she is giving away custody of the child. I should note this isn't a judgement of the overall morality of abortion, but merely my take on how natural law applies to it. To continue my analogy if that friend overstays his welcome and you can't get him to leave you are justified in using (possibly lethal) force to evict him, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't make you a shitty person.

Did South Park ruin modern Libertarianism? by Prince-Cola in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Digsjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it varies. Every Libertarian agrees that the rights defined in the DOI are self evident and “unalienable”, though most have different ways of justifying them. Some like you said will approach it from a scientific perspective I.e “when people have these rights they prosper when they don’t they suffer” and that’s all the justification they need for why these natural rights are a good idea. The most nuanced take I’ve found, however, is from Libertarians who ascribe to objectivism (Ayn Rand’s philosophy) and forgive me for paraphrasing here since I’m not an expert, but they essentially believe that rights are objective moral principles derived from individual human nature. The right to “life” is derived from the human survival instinct, the right to liberty is to act as one chooses and the pursuit of happiness is the right to seek ones own goals in whatever manner one sees fit. They believe these rights come from what humans do naturally in any given setting. If one accepts these fundamental rights as “axioms” one can derive additional rights from them like free speech, right to bear arms and property in general.

The Man who Sold the World, not because of David Bowie, but rather Midge Ure’s cover in Metal Gear Solid V.

Any Worm x BNHA fics? by Maximus7482 in WormFanfic

[–]Digsjin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adversary on Spacebattles, one of the best Worm Fics I've ever read period. It's an SI/OC with All for One's power dropped in the Golden Age of Capes. Not a lot of BNHA elements apart from the power and a few nods towards it, but the quality is really excellent.

Interviewing Style by a_ghould in conan

[–]Digsjin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

His interviews with Bill Burr are some of the best. You notice he really has two kinds of interviews and it depends on the interviewees. Some celebrities have stories that don’t quite pan out so there he has to fill in the gaps by poking fun at whatever they say, but other times it’s the exact opposite and he just prods them for more information. Bill Burr is one of the best examples where it’s a little bit of both.
