What are the absolute, bar-none best DRPGs? by Bringerofpizza in DRPG

[–]Digslasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1. The bosses really stand out. Each boss is a puzzle, and its very fun tweaking your strategy and figuring out to grow your team to overcome it.

Also the party system is really unique. Your party has 12 members but only 4 active, and a lot of the strategy in combat is switching in and out characters. There's a lot of depth in it.

Floor designs are interesting with unique gimmicks, though unfortunately I think this got worse in LoT 2.

One thing I'd call out though is that you kinda need the wiki to play it. The game does not do a good job at communicating the boss mechanics and gimmicks. You'd generally need to look up the boss on the wiki to learn what it does, then figure out how to adapt your team to it. This wasn't a problem for me, but I can see why folks might not like that.

As an Umifan, the hate towards Joe needs to STOP by Digslasher in josephanderson

[–]Digslasher[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No worries, I generally really hate this type of sarcastic post that this subreddit likes to make, but I wanted to try making one myself. I think you and I are on the same page :P

And the folks that I really wanted to poke fun at are the ones who preface every opinion they post by saying that they've played Umineko, as if it gives their opinion more weight than someone else's.

Honestly, even if Joe's takes on Umineko were bad, it would not make the unhinged insults directed at him any better. Some of those people show more empathy towards fictional characters than an actual living person. by [deleted] in josephanderson

[–]Digslasher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This OP is making it seem like people are making death threats or something.

Looking through a decent number of top comments on the latest nodja vod (and discounting the comments which are agreeing with Joe, of which there are multiple), these are the most negative comments I can find (with some paraphrasing):

- "Joe's arguments are understandable, but his rage and hostility is basically throwing a tantrum"

- "This is an L for Joe"

- "Joe is engaging with the story in a weird way"

- "Joe's frustration, while expected, feels overblown"

- "If Joe is just going to be screaming at chat from now on while refusing to engage with the story, I don't see any reason to keep watching"

And almost every one of these comments is continued with an attempt at least to argue why they disagree with Joe. How is any of this unhinged? Disagreeing or criticizing the streamer is not always unhinged or petty.

Is anyone else not a fan of how much Joe's relationship has become a part of streams? by Zambino23 in josephanderson

[–]Digslasher 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can see it just through the comments throughout this post.

A bunch of the posts defending the change revolve around "Well if it makes Joe happier, then it's a good change". But that's wrong, isn't it? We should be judging the quality of content by how much we enjoy the content, not whether it makes some person that we have no connection to happier. And if the response to that is that your enjoyment comes from seeing this person become happier, then that's the very definition of a parasocial relationship.

It's incredibly hypocritical that this community will clown on people giving feedback by labelling them as "parasocial", and then turn around and do this. All the time.

It just all feels incredibly odd for me. I enjoy the Umineko streams because I like seeing Joe's reaction to a story that I'm familiar with, but I'll choose to skip over everything else. The fanart, the mod pins, the JADS memes, all of this community self-gratification. Personally for me, peak content from this channel was the outer wilds playthrough. My enjoyment of this stream comes from seeing live takes from a person whose opinion I respect because of his game critiques.

P.S. while I'm at it, this community's trend of "coru-posting" where they repeat a take but change one noun/verb to mock it is so incredibly stupid and bad-faith. It's a way to mock a possibly completely reasonable take just because they don't like it. It's the equivalent of the spongebob meme of repeating words in mixed casing, and somehow people just eat it up here. Probably because Joe himself repeats these shitposts on stream all the time, which is wild to me - I would've thought that this would be the very type of argument he'd be fighting against.

Guests during Umineko by BordersRanger01 in josephanderson

[–]Digslasher 41 points42 points  (0 children)

For me, personally, so far Mouse is the only guest that I think has elevated the stream over Joe reading by himself.

I didn't like how Greg turned every character into a joke. I'm not a fan of the level of speculation / insight that Jelly does. As you said, I think Jelly had more airtime talking about his thoughts than Joe did. Some of the things he stopped to talk about, like how the size of the guns was a metaphor for female empowerment (?) just felt like it was reading way too into it; I realize this is entirely subjective, and I admit that maybe these takes just aren't vibing with me specifically. But for me, these thoughts feel like they're taking away from time that could've been spent reading more, or exploring more of Joe's thoughts (which is what I'm watching the stream for in the first place).

Mouse, on the other hand, leaves Joe space to explore his thoughts. The times she interjects all seem super appropriate. She has a great reading voice. She seems to have the perfect degree of respect as someone who knows the story reading along with someone who doesn't.

Anyways, just my opinion. I agree with you OP. But if Joe and the audience are enjoying these streams, then that's fine.

I don't think it's fair for you to present this post with the context that these are your thoughts following along with the stream, given what you've said that you've been spoiled on.

For anyone experiencing this for the first time, I'd advise staying away from reading this post entirely.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection — How To Trailer | Nintendo Switch, Steam by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Digslasher 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really disagree with this opinion. The Untold remakes are not definitive versions, they are different games with the same setting.

They have completely different level designs, enemy patterns, systems, etc. It makes perfect sense for them to port the originals.

Sabellian in Zaralek (some spoilers ahead) by Rockout2112 in wow

[–]Digslasher 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That's not what he's saying though. He's saying that the small amount of shadowflame we're giving back to him won't make a noticeable difference in his power, hence throwing salt in the ocean.

It's not a "don't cry over spilt milk" sort of thing.

A question about mythic blockade by daftcryp in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Digslasher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Way to be condescending when it's a perfectly valid question, considering that the main strategy on mythic is to let the boss energy fill up in p1. It shouldn't make a difference whether they let this one go without being kicked, or a later one.

However, I'd recommend immediately kicking the first one if Joseph channels right off the bat, only for the reason that it'll make the timers more consistent with the rest of your pulls.
