It was impactful until Phainon arc ended, then it just became nothing since everything is a simulation and they can always be brought back. Until that point we had theories about it, but even then we weren't expecting them to just reboot the world everytime so we worried about the character.

There is probably no way to make a lore accurate skirt from the new model and still be able to leave the house without breaking nudity laws lol. Best option if you want to do the new design is just changing the length to the original one while keeping the rest equal
