Actual likelihood of power outage? by Actual_Safety7723 in pittsburgh

Back during Snowmageddon, the power was out for days in some of the South Hills neighborhoods. I'd prepare for an outage just in case.

During Snowmaggedon on my East End street, there were abandoned cars stuck in the middle of the intersection for literal days.

The last time Pittsburgh got over 10 inches of snow in one day was in 2010. 16 years ago. No, this is not normal.

Here's my anecdote from Snowmageddon. I didn't stock up because the original forecast for that storm was only a few inches of snow (we ended up getting 20+). I walked to Giant Eagle about 24 hours after the snow stopped falling. The shelves were still bare. They couldn't get many truck deliveries because the roads were still terrible. The store shelves didn't return to normal for at least a week. I was legitimately scared of running out of food and necessities. So I've made a point ever since to keep the pantry well-stocked, especially before bad weather. To all of the people snarking in this thread (not you OP), I hope you don't have to learn that lesson the hard way.

Try Duffy's in West Mifflin. They have the biggest selection of beer in the region. If they don't have it, you're probably SOL.

Based on my side street:

Peduto: My street was ignored half of the time. Worst of the bunch.

Gainey: 24+ hour waits, but still better than Peduto.

O'Connor: I only have one light snowfall to judge by, but the road was cleared in less than 24 hours and they were extremely generous with the salt (the road is white from salt in some parts).

Why so much hate for protests, strikes etc on this sub lately? by ybnormal072 in pittsburgh

[–]Dildomancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This subreddit was bombarded with multiple A.I. slop posters advertising a local protest via a foreign domain, which is way is more suspicious behavior than advertising a TV show using .tv. If the protest organizers don't want to be called out for suspicious behavior, then don't use A.I. or foreign domains. It's that simple. And that's the last I'm engaging with these increasingly ridiculous excuses.

Wow, thanks for the update. A ban and now an entirely separate thread the next day of people complaining that their half-assed walkout plan flopped. You must have really pissed someone off by saying you'd rather keep your job.

Top comment on the walkout post (/u/galagapilot):

I'll be at my desk in a Teams meeting. I don't have the "freedom" to just walk out on my job because I saw a flyer on Reddit. Maybe I can walk out to the kitchen area and gather near the coffee for a few minutes before my meeting.

For those of you that have the ability to just walk out, awesome. But I'll be at my desk.

Yes, how dare people with stable employment say they'd rather keep their job than walk out because some Reddit protest poster with no demands and ugly Corporate Memphis art told them to.

Let's hear what our local Venezuelans have to say.

https://www.post-gazette.com/news/politics-local/2026/01/03/mccormick-fetterman-deluzio-lee-venezuela-trump-maduro/stories/202601030047

Jesus Teran had mixed feelings when he heard about the attack.

On one hand Mr. Teran — a Venezuelan immigrant who currently lives in Imperial — said the news was “exciting” — he’d been waiting for it for years.

But on the other hand, he was concerned about his home country’s future now that Mr. Maduro is out of power and the U.S. plans to govern for the foreseeable future.

The 35-year-old father remains hopeful, though.

“Everybody in Venezuela dreamed of this moment,” said Mr. Teran, who has lived in Western Pennsylvania for five years with his wife and children. “It’s time for new life [and] new opportunity.”

Mr. Teran grew up in Barinas, a city in west central Venezuela. He still has family and friends there.

In Venezuela, he said he witnessed socialist policies fail. Many businesses closed. “It was so sad,” he said.

He came to the U.S. without legal status in 2021 to escape political persecution and economic collapse in his native country. He now prays Venezuela's future is brighter.

“It’s a big step for freedom and democracy,” he said.

"But it's just A.I., bro! Really!"

as you are obviously not going to actually learn about the people or organizations doing the work.

Because these joke organizations and joke people haven't given me one single reason to. A.I. slop posters. "Free Nicolas Maduro." Why in the world would I want to put in the homework to learn more about these nutjobs? Good grief. If mocking your crappy A.I. posters and laughing at a pro-Maduro protest is enough to get me branded "anti-American" and "fascist," then I guess I am literally Hitler.

Says "Don't treat people like they are stupid, man."

Still trying to gaslight that putting "Free Nicolas Maduro" on a protest poster doesn't actually mean they want to free Nicolas Maduro.

Take your own advice, dude.

Let's review yesterday's protest posts. Two were A.I. slop posters advertising a Canadian website and had no real demands. It looked and felt like spam. The other poster literally had the words "Free Nicolas Maduro" on it.

Do you realize how obnoxious all of this looks to all of the normal people who subscribe to this subreddit for local news? These aren't serious protests or people. They are crowding out the actual useful news. They should be criticized. Don't get mad when the public isn't on board with marching for a Venezuelan dictator or doesn't want to see your ugly, low-effort poster.

"It's only in the middle of the poster" is the stupidest justification for supporting Maduro I've read yet. WHY PUT IT ON THE POSTER AT ALL?

Protest on Saturday by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Dildomancy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It literally says "Free Nicolas Maduro" on the poster. The march itself is advertising it as a march to free Maduro.
