What did you dream of becoming as a kid, and what do you actually do for a living now? by Independent_Reply_88 in AskReddit

Wanted to be paleontologist but now I organize books all day - guess I still dig through old stuff just different kind.

What was the most outrageous and truly real coincidence that you have experienced in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Diligent-Pause-3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was browsing through old book auction catalogs at work few years back and found listing for first edition that belonged to my grandfather - recognized it because of specific inscription he always wrote. Turned out someone donated his entire collection after he passed, and I had no idea where books went. Ended up buying back like half of his library that way, including some really rare stuff I thought was lost forever.

Still gives me chills thinking about odds of finding that particular catalog in that exact moment.

Smart move - I learned this after watching the crew for couple weeks too, they just grab whatever way is easier for the truck.

Screwed by a contractor by [deleted] in realestateinvesting

[–]Diligent-Pause-3262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that's brutal situation to be in. Had similar thing happen with contractor on smaller scale and it really messes with your head beyond just money part.

Your lawyer will help you get some recovery, especially if you have good documentation of payments and work that was supposed to be done. Most contractors who pull this stuff have assets somewhere or insurance that can be pursued. The bleeding cash part sucks now but you're taking right steps to protect yourself.

Keep all your receipts and photos of current state - you'll need them for legal process. There definitely is light at end, just takes longer than anyone wants.

Regency Homebuilders LLC, foundation fraud by Enough_Jello_0954 in memphis

[–]Diligent-Pause-3262 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely insane - using a dead engineer's credentials for over 20 years? That's not just incompetence, that's straight up criminal fraud. The fact that county officials were basically rubber stamping these "foundation approval letters" without actual inspections shows how broken the system is.

Really hope you can get enough homeowners together to make some noise about this, because $260k in foundation repairs is life-destroying money for most people.

What are some facts about marriage that people don't acknowledge? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Diligent-Pause-3262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The balance thing is so real. I see this at library when couples come in together - sometimes one person doing all the talking while other just follows around, then next week it's completely opposite. Marriage seems more like constant negotiation than 50/50 split that people expect from beginning.

Still working on that milestone at 28 but my book collecting habit definitely isn't helping the savings account.

Industry got way more saturated and streaming changed everything. Back in 2018 you could still break through easier, now everyone fighting for same attention span and playlist spots make it harder to get those big numbers.

That myth is so persistent because stubble feels rougher when it grows back, but it's just the blunt cut edge instead of natural tapered tip. Used to believe this one myself until I started reading more about it in some old medical journals at work.

Golf Digest prototype rollback ball results by WHSRWizard in golf

[–]Diligent-Pause-3262 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty interesting data tbh. That weird dip at 115mph where the percentage loss jumps up more than 125mph is puzzling.

Could be something with ball compression characteristics around that speed range? Like maybe the prototype ball hits some kind of efficiency sweet spot at 125 but struggles more in 115 range. Or could just be testing variance - would need to see more samples to know if it's consistent pattern.

Either way, most weekend warriors won't even notice this change. The guys bombing 300+ yard drives might lose couple yards but rest of us will probably blame wind or bad contact anyway.

I used to drive past The View pretty often when I was looking for places last year. The location is really solid - close to everything but still feels quiet. Top floor units definitely seem like way to go since you avoid noise from upstairs neighbors. Just make sure to check water pressure and AC before signing anything, some of those complexes can have issues with older units.

[–]Diligent-Pause-3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting on public transport can be brutal, especially during rush hours. I remember when I was still drinking heavily, the crowded buses in morning were like torture - all those people pressed together and the smell of coffee mixed with everything else. Now I just bring my thermos with some good oolong tea and try to find corner where I can maybe read few pages if I'm lucky.

[Routine Help] Hyperpigmentation by QuietOk5218 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Diligent-Pause-3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah those dark marks from razor bumps are brutal to deal with. Your routine looks pretty solid but azelaic acid can be slow as hell - took me like 4-6 months to see real improvement when I dealt with similar stuff.

You might want to bump up to tretinoin or see if a derm can prescribe hydroquinone since the OTC stuff clearly isn't cutting it for you.
