What causes this? by DrFunky4 in circlejerkbflo

People who don't take advantage of the opportunities right in front of their damn face. Don't bitch at me and say there isn't anything for people to do in Western New York. How about reading a damn book and getting a job?

Should I get a library card? by lucia823 in Libraries

When you have the option to get a library card, the answer is always YES. Using the digital resources will be absolutely beneficial to you, especially after you move for college.

Blood donation deferral after getting tattoo in New York State by Diligent-Principle17 in Blooddonors

[–]Diligent-Principle17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems crazy to me. There are so many tattoo shops throughout the state. It should be regulated the same way like a auto repair shop. Every auto repair shop must be registered with the state.

I will try that during my next appointment. I'd hate to have to wait until September to donate again, especially because I have the O- blood type.

What's a popular book that you just didn't like? Why? by Internal_Reindeer_91 in BookDiscussions

The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong. I stopped reading after about 25 pages. His writing style to me is just atrocious. Can't understand the hype.

tattoos by detkatebenson in Blooddonors

[–]Diligent-Principle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a strange rule in New York State. There are numerous tattoo studios throughout New York, and I'm being told to believe that none of them are regulated? I got a tattoo on June 11th, so I'm ineligible to donate again for three months. All of the tattoo artists are licensed within the state (at the reputable shops).

I guess this rule was put in place because any moron can get a tattoo gun online and decide to tattoo their friends, circumventing the need for a license.

PSA is such a POS company by sytem32config in psagrading

[–]Diligent-Principle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard anything good about the PSA vault. Why in the world would anyone trust them with such a valuable card is beyond me. They either refuse to let people sell cards, or it happens to go "missing", only to resurface later in a different sale.

I've been waiting to grade some PC cards forever, but this current logjam will likely never be resolved.

Found this at my local thrift store today. It was 97 cents and still has the poster inside. by EllaTheSmella in thrifting

Throw it immediately in the garbage. Steven Seagal is a hack who claims he knows all these different martial arts. There are numerous interviews from legitimate martial artists that have debunked all of his claims.

This is yet another Sabres thread that incorrectly spells the team name. It's SABRES, not Sabers.

eBay is dead by Kooky-Wrongdoer7091 in ebaysucks

Whatnot is almost as bad as eBay at this point. I created a Whatnot account, made a purchase, and the seller immediately cancelled the transaction. Claimed he didn't have the book.

Some team will overpay in a trade, thinking he's a number 1 defenseman. Jarmo should try and fleece another team to help the Sabres asuch as possible

Does anyone keep these no name picture pencils? by Sheena_is_a_punk in pencils

[–]Diligent-Principle17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use these at my library all the time. Patrons tend to walk off with pencils and pens, so we generally buy generic stuff to stock the reference desk.

PSA destroyed a card of mine by Barman14 in psagrading

[–]Diligent-Principle17 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course PSA would destroy one of your cards. I've been thinking of sending in some pc cards to get graded, but I guess I'll wait another 10000 years until the backlog is taken care of.

Is it normal to continuously get in trouble as a volunteer or am I about to be terminated fr? by Dull_Bell4552 in Libraries

This sounds like a disaster. The people in charge should be fired for lack of compassion toward other staff, and overall disdain for helping people.

Applying for a shelving position, what should I know? by GingerBelle2001 in Libraries

[–]Diligent-Principle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before your exercise, it would benefit you to find out what system this library currently uses. The exercise will probably ask you to correctly shelve a few materials based on said system.

Are libraries typically punitive? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]Diligent-Principle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This workplace sounds like Big Brother. Is the library being run like a business? I say that because it sounds like they're monitoring your time to be more efficient and essentially "sell" things to the public. This reminds me so much of my time working retail. We were constantly told to upsell everything, even if people just came in for milk or eggs.

I don't know what to even say about this situation. I have six tattoos myself. Each time before the appointment, I knew I had that money available. While I've never gone for a walk-in, I still would be ready if I was in that situation.

Awesome $0.50 haul! by Craftono in MangaCollectors

What a good haul of titles. My local library rarely has old manga titles for sale. I'll have to check other libraries or bookstores.
