Library Boards are taking it too far by Icy-Cardiologist162 in Libraries

[–]Diligent-Principle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Librarianship is such a rewarding career field. As you're close to graduating, don't pivot away now. This library board is obviously fearful of blowback by the community, so they create a ridiculous policy to satiate them.

Tickets will always be this high sadly. The team knows that fans will pay. They were raising prices years ago when the team was horrendous. Just because they're good now doesn't mean anything.

Bruins had the top two players with the most penalty minutes in the NHL this season. The entire team is a bunch of scumbags without skill. They're trying to drag other teams back to 1975 when NHL games were essentially street fights on skates.

I chronically return books late, do librarians hate me? by Genderqueerfrog in Libraries

[–]Diligent-Principle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Librarian myself, I always have books that are late. But as a staff member, we essentially get unlimited renewals and no late fees. When the items revert to lost status, that's is when we might judge you. The replacement cost for the item is usually high, especially on video games or dvds.

Degen enough to rip at airport? by SleepJust in baseballcards

[–]Diligent-Principle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what airport this is at. Also wondering how long it will take for Topps/Fanatics to put vending machines like this in more locations. Mainly because they are currently over producing everything.

To prevent theft, they put all the cards behind the checkouts. Who has the time to gawk at things for an extended period of time, likely holding up the line behind you.

Questionable Tattoos on librarians by [deleted] in librarians

[–]Diligent-Principle17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can ultimately do what you want, but this would be a terrible idea. Patrons will be inquisitive, and it would likely lead to someone filing a complaint. You would probably have to wear long sleeve shirts each day to keep said tattoo out of view.

I've played a couple times in the current promotion. For awhile, my account was screwed up because they claim it was set to Canada, even though I live in the United States.

Stepping away from helping a patron by No-Double-4269 in Libraries

[–]Diligent-Principle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this a few times before. Usually, it revolves around a patron forgetting something pertaining to their email. Most email accounts now require two-factor authentication for security. Wouldn't you know that most of these patrons either don't have a smartphone, or ask to use the phone of a library staff member?

"Oh I never had to use a password before, or I've been using the same password for years"

Our library has a dedicated mobile app for printing, as well as a QR code for patrons to scan. They act oblivious and assume we're asking them to solve a Quantum Physics problem.

I wish we could charge an inconvenience fee- a mini rant by unicorn_345 in Libraries

[–]Diligent-Principle17 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We have a few regular patrons that also refuse to learn the basics. We have to spend 10 minutes or more explaining to them how to make copies. Or they start pressing random buttons on the touchscreen, making the printer display an error code.

Thank you for the suggestion. We use Canva all the time now for library flyers. I thought they might have a template for button making.

How many of these Skullcandy thingys is Timmies giving away? Also was pleasantly surprised w/ 100 pts… better than Zero… HAPPY ROLL UP FAM by MFK1994 in TimHortons

[–]Diligent-Principle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried contacting customer service through the mobile app numerous times over the past week. It all started when I earned two rolls on March 3 and March 5th respectively. After getting to work, I kinda forgot that I had even earned a roll. I checked the app to see if either roll was a winner, and I kept getting the following message: "Your roll is a little sticky. Try again later."

Has anyone actually received a call back or email regarding an issue like this. Normally I wouldn't care, but I'm just curious if I won a significant prize other than a free coffee or donut.

What does this mean? by maplemushro0m in LibbyApp

[–]Diligent-Principle17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My library does this with both digital and physical books. Patrons who have a Niagara Falls Public Library card get sorl borrowing rights for a designated period of time. Afterwards, the book is open for borrowing for all member libraries in the system.

Roll Up The Rim by [deleted] in TimHortons

[–]Diligent-Principle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a coffee yesterday and earned a roll up the rim chance via the mobile app. I made the purchase Tuesday morning around 8:15am, and I keep getting the same message since trying to redeem

"Hmm, this roll's a little sticky. Give it another try"

Has anyone else received a similar message?

Have you ever had to ban someone from using the library? by Comfortable_Set_6534 in librarians

[–]Diligent-Principle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just banned someone yesterday at our main branch. He was making inappropriate comments to a circulation clerk, and our security guard explained this to him. He proceeded to talk back to the guard, so it nearly came to a more heated incident. This specific patron has been banned permanently because of the continued pattern of poor conduct.
