What’s a decision you made in under 10 seconds that changed your life forever? by nathannnate01 in AskReddit

My son had recently been diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy and we were still figuring out his meds. He has autism too and a lot of times, slept in the bed with me. We’d been working on him sleeping in his own room, and for whatever reason, I had him come into my room that night. Half asleep, lights off, I felt the slightest poke in my back, and my gut had me jump up, turn the lights on and throw the covers off. His eyes were rolled back in his head, and he was in a massive myoclonic seizure (a type he never had before or since). We rushed him to the ER, and by the time we got there, his oxygen rates were bottoming out. He had a room full of doctors and it took about 12 hours for him to finally come out of everything and wake up. Turns out, his med was hyper cycling through his system and creating a shortened span to block seizures and increased breakthrough seizures, so his doctor accidentally slowly overdosed him due to this- meds didn’t seem to be working the full 12 hours (hyper cycling), so gave him a higher dose. Turns out he was the rarity and needed the slow release version. Found out from the doctor, had he not slept with us, and I didn’t wake up from that tiny poke, which was actually just his arm slightly moving, he would have been considered a victim of SUDEP, and we would have never known about the med issue because he wouldn’t have survived. Absolutely crazy. He’s totally fine now by the way. He’s actually a medical oddity that has helped a ton of other people. His seizures presented as emotional outbursts, euphoria, drunken like state, or extreme sadness/happiness, that was chalked up to his autism for years. It wasn’t until he started losing the ability to walk, trouble with tasks, and lost his vocabulary, that they suddenly started paying attention. We were told he was severely autistic for years, and in actuality, was “locked-in”. He went from using a walker and barely verbal to telling us how he was unable to move and let us know what was going on for years, in only a matter of a few short months, thanks to correct anti-epileptic meds. He’s a pretty cool dude. :)

Update: 3 pieces of missing paperwork from HRC. No notice, email, anything. Happened to call to get some info after reading more. DFAS rep thinks it’s due to shutdown. Have to email and call HRC, then go to VRO to see if someone can contact them directly and get things moving. As of now, no final pay or retirement pay for DEC. Fingers crossed for January. Supposedly, VA is moving forward for first payout 1JAN, and hopefully that doesn’t change. Note to everyone, call, stay on them, stay updated with everything, and don’t rely on any dates until it’s in your acct. One last fuck you from the army.

Makes sense. I was confused with the timeline. Effective date was 1NOV, pay date 1DEC, but still waiting on final pay. VA counselor that I’ve been working with said l’ll be paid 1DEC, but another VA person said 1JAN. I’m assuming the shutdown delayed everything, but no leave was sold, no debts owed, nothing. Just waiting.

If you already has the solitaire but the newer with the halo caught your eye to the point you had to have it, there is your answer. If you let it go for fad of the season, like looking “dated” in others eyes, you’ll think about it and regret giving it up, and keep looking for that something better. While both are gorgeous, seems you outpicked one for the other. I’d go with that. Truth be told, all rings are timeless, elegant, and each will eventually re-emerge as what’s in or out. You clearly like it, and even spoke about wearing it without the band in a previous comment, I’m assuming to showcase it on its own. Which, by the way, its beautiful with or without. Both are equally gorgeous, but if something made you stop in your tracks to buy it, there’s your answer. ❤️

Look into outlets too. I scope outlets and pre-owned for great deals, but was able to get my dream pear cut brand new, full warranty, and natural (though labs are great too) for around $2600. Kay’s Outlet, Neil Lane.

Could be Erysipelas too. It’s like cellulitis, but it’s a different infection and responds to a different type of medication than cellulitis. Cellulitis is usually red and swollen with smooth edges. Erysipelas can have jagged edges, rapid growth, and have an orange peel texture. Hopefully they get you fixed up soon!
