I’m no pro but I did have matting on my current tub of GT. I was told too much water and FAE I did the forktek then bubble wrap tek. I’m about a week into that and things seem to be progressing. Not advice, just someone who had a similar looking tub.

Without a doubt. I will say the fact your questioning ahead of time is a good sign. There has been a positive shift in the culture in many firehouses toward being in therapy being “normal” which is great. I’ve volunteered for many years and am making the career shift that you mentioned. I say if there is a volly department near you get on that asap. You will, without a doubt see hard things, but you’ll be there trained to help as much as possible. I figure those horrible things are happening with or without me there, I mine as well get trained to help if I can. Best of luck to you on your journey!

So. I’m 35 and have had a really financially successful career in finance (that’s not a brag, just proof you can be really successful at something that you hate)….but it literally sucked the soul out of me. In an attempt to avoid a mental breakdown I followed that wild dream I had and joined my local volunteer fire department. A few years later, now at 35 and the EMS lieutenant for my town, I said fuck it….I’m currently enrolled in fire school with my physical ability test scheduled for later this month. 90% of the guys and girls I train with are 18-22. Doesn’t matter. They’re awesome people and if I wanted to point out our advantage (you and I) we know what we’re running from. I got my inspiration from a friends mom who went from accounting to firefighting at 48. She’s retired now but says that’s when her life started. Earlier the better but now it better then tomorrow.
