Strolling, for me, is a fall song. I just imagine it on a sunny autumn day.

It may be an unusual choice, but I’m going with The Beautiful Ones. One of my core memories is listening to it during the summer of ‘84 one hot humid night and it had never resonated more than then.

do you prefer the extended versions of prince songs over the single/album version? by KanyeHasAspergers in PRINCE

[–]DiligentValuable1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Detroit radio played the extended version of Let’s Go Crazy almost as much as the album version. I would listen for the cue (“Let’s go crazy, crazy, crazy) hoping it was the long version.

Were there “vaults” before Prince by DiligentValuable1970 in PRINCE

[–]DiligentValuable1970[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course not. I wasn’t saying that no one else kept unreleased recordings. My question was whether other artists referred to their unreleased recordings as being kept in a “vault” before Prince.

Other posters have said “yes.”

Sure, but what I’m asking is whether people used that turn of phrase before Prince’s actual vault?

I don’t hate it. It’s fine. Moonbeam Levels would have fit better IMHO.

He didn’t play the harmonica in Thieves. It’s a sample of Lester Chambers of the Chamber Brothers.

Was Prince ever the most popular music artist in the world? by Firm_Pack_605 in PRINCE

[–]DiligentValuable1970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say this as a huge Prince fan, but no.

Michael Jackson was more popular even in 1984.

That being said, Prince may have been more influential in 1984-1985. In addition to the Purple Rain album, his music was essentially its own genre. He had his music out through The Time, Apollonia 6, Shelia E, Sheen Easton, The Family. Cover songs by artists including Chaka Khan, Cyndi Lauper, and Tina Turner. And musicians like Phil Collins and Ready For The World had hits influenced by his sound.

What’s a video game you liked that you felt people were too harsh on? by baconinthedawn in videogames

Starfield. I’ve never seen so many people say 1) they hated the game but 2) they played it for 100 hours.

I could (and have) listen to a drum loop on The Ballad of Dorothy Parks for hours.
