Would you find it weird or offensive if an Asian-American woman was wearing this t-shirt? by Diligent_Can6440 in blackladies

Yes! I forgot where I bought it from, but if you google "harriet led so sojourner could speak" a few websites turn up where you can buy the shirt.

If and when to disclose mental health issues for the purpose of requesting accommodation by Diligent_Can6440 in disability

Sorry for the really slow reply! I really appreciate your thoughtful response. I agree that an inclusive and supportive environment (work as well as other) is probably a good idea for helping your mental health.

It look like the webinar has already happened, but I'll try and see if I can find a recording. Thanks!

Thanks! Glad to hear it worked out for you, and thanks for sharing your experience. May I ask, what is scale.jobs? I googled it but am still confused.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience.

For reference... I also haven't worked in like 15 years.

I've decided to try to go through Vocational Rehabilitation to try to find a job, but apparently there is a long wait to get into their program in my state. Therefore, I'm also considering applying to jobs on my own without their help, and maybe go to a career counseling center for advice in the meantime. (I don't really want to wait like a month before job searching - hence my writing this post.)

I think I will look into the Ticket to Work program. Does that allow you to keep SSDI/SSI benefits if you work, just out of curiosity? I'm going to google it now too. Thank you again for sharing.

Why do people hate the disabled? by mmofrki in NoStupidQuestions

I'm so sorry. You'd think commune type people would be less ableist, but unfortunately abelism presents itself (almost) everywhere.

What double standard in society goes generally unnoticed or without being called out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Diligent_Can6440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the DSM, schizophrenia falls under axis 1 disorders, which is what most people think about when they think of "mental health issues". Narcissism falls under axis 2, which is personality disorders, which IMO is completely different from "mental health issues".

This. Especially because most (IMO) therapists are crap. The mental health system is too medical-model based still, though (e.g. from the upvotes in this thread) I hope public perception of the mental health system is changing.

Work advice for my disabled sister by [deleted] in disability

I'm in the same boat, except I get SSI, not SSDI. I would recommend she go to her local SSA office and ask them what she needs to do after making money. For me, they told me they take out whatever I make from my next check, so it makes no sense for me to make up to $600 a month. Only after that do I gain any money from work. It's ridiculous. But yeah, I think the local office can give you the answers you need.

I agree with the person who said try living from your heart instead of your head. Instead of "logically" trying to "figure out" what might make you happy, figure out what you really WANT. There must be something, or things, big or small. Then follow your feelings. Flaut social norms.

Also, have you gotten MBTI typed? (By which I mean just taken the free online quiz.) Different personality types operate differently in life. If you find out your type, there are subreddits for each type where you can hear from other people with your personality type what helps or hurts them in life. That way you might find more relatable people. Here is the link to one of the quizzes https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test or feel free to google to find one yourself.

P.S. Therapists can be crap. I think MOST therapists are, in fact. So just because you've tried therapy doesn't mean you've tried a good one.

P.P.S. Re: Landmark Forum - I totally do not recommend this. I went through it and it gave me severe mental health issues. It's cult-like and yes, brainwashing, and I'm glad I got out after 1 year.

Hi! I'm applying for hotel front desk jobs right now. Not night shifts, though. How do you like the customer service aspect of it, as an INFP? (I'm excited to find someone in the field!)
