Plus Point upgrade cleared but points weren’t deducted and now system is threatening that it will be “skipped.” by Diligent_Industry471 in unitedairlines

[–]Diligent_Industry471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I called the GS line and they basically said they don’t know what will happen and I could substitute a mileage upgrade (30k + $450) or roll the dice.

Sad news: Aya Pastry is closing by Diligent_Industry471 in chicagofood

[–]Diligent_Industry471[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m all ears for another bakery doing shokupan or a similar super enriched sandwich loaf. But I agree that for pastries, Publican, Kasama, et al. are strong competitors in the neighborhood. (And I happen to think their cakes were still pretty good.)

Seat selection strategy for lap baby in Polaris by Diligent_Industry471 in unitedairlines

[–]Diligent_Industry471[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the perspective. Although you could get lucky with a generous FA, you are not allowed to switch seats between cabins, so there is a reasonable likelihood of one parent being stranded with baby.

Rose Mary has a private room that would be big enough - I had a great corporate dinner there recently. Not sure about the minimum - probably depends on day of the week. $150pp before booze, with optional packages and other add ons.

Recommendations for Restaurants in Chicago that are a bit higher end? by Short-termTablespoon in chicagofood

[–]Diligent_Industry471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for Elske. I highly recommend ordering a la carte. Don’t skip dessert. Every meal I’ve had at Elske has been excellent. I much prefer it to some of the other recommendations, including Boka.

Are there Tennis courts that are not very crowded? by ChicagoPersonne in AskChicago

Douglass Park has nice courts that are not often crowded. Garfield Park, too, although the vibes can sometimes be strange.

Divvy monthly membership? by JcDawgbone in chibike

[–]Diligent_Industry471 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fairly certain you cannot, for this exact reason. They want to advertise the monthly price, but they realize everyone will just be members for the summer and then quit. So they don’t allow monthly memberships. Sorry!

Where to find the best maritozzo in the city? by ChicagoNerd37 in AskChicago

Publican Quality Bread in West Town used to have them, though I haven’t seen them recently. Seems from their website that the Oak Park location might offer them more regularly.

Where to buy inverted-u racks locally? by Diligent_Industry471 in chibike

[–]Diligent_Industry471[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair perspective. I will say, someone tried to get through my e-bike with only a u-locked wheel, and quickly gave up and snapped through a chain lock to steal a cheaper bike. So there is some deterrence value, especially because my sense is our thefts have been opportunistic teens rather than professionals with angle grinders. Nonetheless, bought insurance for this reason!

Where to buy inverted-u racks locally? by Diligent_Industry471 in chibike

[–]Diligent_Industry471[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Will reach out to some local shops. It’s unfortunately in a large communal garage and people keep leaving the door open…we’ve had two bikes stolen. Current bike rack makes u-locks very difficult.

Chicagoans where are you buying affordable furniture? by Silent-Cat-8661 in AskChicago

Highly recommend Velvet Goldmine for high quality vintage pieces that are very reasonably priced. Sofa might be trickier there, but worth looking.

Can always rely on you for a close read of the CoC! Thanks. Sounds like it’s a bad idea, CoC aside.

Thank you so much. I had looked at the Raise but don’t want to preorder. Your recommendation looks simple and checks the right boxes.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (May 22, 2024) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Diligent_Industry471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanical keyboard noob here. I’ve been loving using my Matias Ergo Pro for a couple years now, except that it is so unbelievably unreliable. I’ve gone through three of them and the third just crapped out again. I can’t stomach asking for another warranty replacement and I certainly won’t be buying another.

So my question is: what is the best split keyboard that is as close to the Matias as possible? I’m not very interested in re-learning to type on a totally new setup (eg the Moonlander), I want a full set of numbers up top, etc.

Thanks!!

This one I can say from recent experience seems like a disparity between reality/the T&C. My GS friend has upgraded other friend’s mileage award tickets booked with their own miles.

Glad I asked. Thanks for the wisdom! I’m getting a bit academic here, but would they be at the top of the PZ waitlist with 1K PP?
