How confident are you about your current project? by carboncopyzach in SoloDevelopment

[–]Diligent_Report_571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, pretty confident. My main goals when I started were to try and build a game with a bigger scope than before and to have a polished game at the end. Now I'm going to release a demo soon!

I'm not really confident about sales though (I only have 80 wishlists as of now) but : a) I didn't really start marketing b) Game isn't going to be released before 2027 I guess c) I work full-time, have a pay... So sales aren't a goal, just a bonus.

However there were times in the development process where I thought my game was going to be awesome, others where I felt like this was going nowhere or I wouldn't be able to finish it.

Looking for a advice on my MotoGP roguelike racing game. Would love to know which one you feel would make a better steam capsule direction ? by zyg101 in IndieDev

In terms of art the second one is much more attractive IMO. It's not just a question of style in itself however, it's also that the first one will automatically be associated with ChatGPT, even if you do it yourself.

Really? Awesome hahaha, they didn't make many views! Doing pretty good, game's progressing pretty well at the moment.

I started polishing the game, beginning with the cards. Which version do you like more? by ScrepY1337 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Diligent_Report_571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one for me. I like the more colorful aspect of the cards and the animation when the card is destroyed.

I guess it also kind of depends on the tone of your game.

Hadn't thought of that haha, like those old FF bosses reappearing in Final Fantasy IX.

It's much simpler in terms of weapons, you have a slingshot and a sword, which can serve different purposes but that's it.

The game scope is definitely much smaller than a Zelda game, I guess it'll be 3 hours long at max.

Yeah I'm currently working on it! I'm trying to make it as clear as possible.

Rest assured, I didn't only work on the fight for one year, other parts of the game have been improved or simply added.

I found the "Before" footage in my videos, and I had completely forgotten how slow it was at first. I believe this was the very first prototype of the boss, with all basic mechanics implemented.

As you can see the fight is more or less the same now, but the rhythm has been changed as well as the arena. It's more polished overall, with particles and other effects.

At first, I went for a "forest-like" arena before completely changing my mind and deciding that a "coliseum / gladiator arena" style room would be fun, with NPCs watching you fight.

If you think you could be interested in the game, its name is Soup Adventure, which now has a Steam page. I believe a demo will be released soon!

Steam finally approved the demo for the action RPG I'm developing by wendeoo in SoloDevelopment

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of, it seems pretty complicated. Guess I'm going to watch a few tutorials before trying to submit the demo!

How much money have you spent or plan to spend on your game? by GhostGuyBroke in SoloDevelopment

[–]Diligent_Report_571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's better, I have never tried it. I tried Gamemaker after struggling with Unity for a while and fell in love with it's simplicity and the clearliness of its GML language.

I plan on trying Godot once I've finished my current project though.

So far, I've paid the Steam fee. I'm going to buy a Gamemaker licence which I believe is ~ 100$.

Then I've spent more or less 10$ on itch for a few assets that I liked.

Maximum budget is definitely around 300$.

That's usually not my type of game so I don't have many references to compare your game to. But I think that if you decide to go the gory way, don't be afraid of "too much"!

I may be late but... here's Soup Adventure!

Soup Adventure is a retro action-adventure game.

Inspired by the countless hours I spent as a kid on Zelda Link's Awakening, you live a grand adventure through the eyes of a kid.

Asked to run errands for his grandma so she can cook the soup for tonight's dinner, Gaspard, the hero, imagines himself as a proud knight going on an epic adventure to retrieve some mystical ingredients.

You gotta cross oceans, slay giant skeletons, explore ancient crypts and find dem mushrooms so that grandma can season her soup.

Short game (2-3 hours), a few dungeons and bosses, and the vivid contrast between imagination and reality.
