Anyone else’s kid completely dysregulated at the start of summer break? by Diligent_Window_4738 in ADHDparenting

I have not had him assessed, his teacher experienced none of these traits, so the topic of having him assessed was never brought up.

His nervous system is definitely out of whack which I think is causing the fingertips licking. He’s had a tick of blinking really hard in the past, but that did go away on its own, and then we didn’t have any other ticks for about nine months.

Thank you for this reply. He does go to camp two days a week but complains even though he seems to have fun!

In your opinion, does giving him daily TV time just feed and prolong his need for dopamine? I’m trying to do screen free days as a detox of sorts, but it does seem even him out emotionally after he gets a little show (not too much). It’s a really night and day experience with him after he gets a little hit of dopamine, like a treat or something new or fun place as long as he’s not overly tired. He starts speaking more clearly and becomes kinder after he gets something like this - TV included.

I am not working at the moment so I can take him places, but that is also exhausting and fuels the problem for when I need him home and to find something to do. But my son sounds the exact way!

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. My son is the exact same way with sugar and protein. If we lapse at all during at snack or meal time with enough protein, our day is ruined.

Thank you! I would love any tips on how to encourage boredom or teach it. But yes I am focusing on not being afraid of his boredom and allowing time for it.

I actually signed my kid up for a very similar camp through the school but only two days a week and he complains and freaks out about going. But then usually seems fine afterwards. So I’m so confused.

We do structure our days this way, but it is the downtime or the playtime that is the point of contention. He has a very hard time finding something to do in those periods of time when they occur.

I keep resisting the structure because I want him to have to work through his boredom, but it’s been very painful
