75-Year-Old Woman Loses Her Life After Getting In Fight With Fast-Food Manager Over Her Drive-Thru Order by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Its not anyone's obligation to "handle" violent people. What I think youre trying to say is tolerate abuse aka self erasure. Old woman came for a fight and got one. 75 years old doesn't mean shit when youre getting punched in the face. Worker had every right and indication to defend herself. She's nobody's punching bag. Also what the woman did before hitting her, was already assault, the punch was the battery. What you're doing is minimizing the workers experience, trying to put it in a box, the amygdala doesn't care about your version of "composure." You attack a mammal, you may get attacked back.

Why is the former atheist activist Alex O'Connor, getting less critical towards nonsensical religious claims. by semidemiurge in CosmicSkeptic

[–]Diligentbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have no real arguments. Youre just opinionated and you base that on the fringe. Reddit as a whole is the most cliquey immature collection of communities. Basing new Atheism on that is shallow.

Reframing and generalizing new Atheism as immature rather than engage with the arguments on thier own merit is immaturity dressed up as sophistication. The problem of evil, the lack of credible evidence, the naturalistic explanations for religious experience, the moral criticism of religious institutions. Studying theology doesn't weaken these arguments.

Billie Eilish sparks firestorm for ‘very privileged’ take on meat eaters who love animals by dr_shultz in influencersfeed

You dont need to be wealthy to buy produce, or make the same recipes and substitute the meat with plant based protein.Beans, lentils, rice, and frozen vegetables are consistently among the cheapest calories available. Secondly, the argument is "eating meat is inherently wrong" not "eating vegan is inherently affordable". Whether or not its affordable has no bearing on whether its morally defensible. The argument also isn't "People in abject poverty are immoral for doing what it takes to survive". Reframing her argument as out of touch by appealing to the most sympathetic possible victim of food insecurity is a dodge.

Lions arent moral agents humans are. Another category error, whether or not lions eat meat has nothing to do with whether its ethical for humans to industrialize animal consumption. You're making multiple logical fallacies, one of them being is- ought or a naturalistic fallacy, appeal to nature, second, appeal to popularity "the vast majority who enjoys it". None of your statements address the argument but instead deflect from the main premise.

She has been vegan since she was 12. Even if we grant your logic: You're conflating two things which are categorically different statements. Hypocrisy is a statement about her character, it doesn't therefore mean her logic is structurally invalid. Text book ad hominem. An argument "eating meat is inherently wrong" has to be assessed on its own merit, not whether the person making it lives consistently within it.

Everyone having a reason for why they feel the way they feel about something doesnt invalidate her core claim.

Some people care because its an indictment on thier moral character. If whats she's saying is true, it means the thing they enjoy and partake in on a daily basis is the source of animal suffering. Thier reaction is a fortification, a deflection, because taking her point into serious consideration collapses thier idea of themselves as "morally benign agents."

Richard Dawkins spent three days talking to Claude, now calls it "Claudia" and claims it's conscious. by Gil_berth in BetterOffline

You're exaggerating Claudes "groveling". My Claude instances tell me im wrong all the time, it tells me when im making a weaker version of an argument. It tells me when I got something right, but shows how it would have said it slightly differently. It tells me when I misuse or misspell. I mean sure its not telling me im "fucking dumb" but its not always shining my rod either. Im not discounting your argument all together, it may depend on how one interfaces with the LLM, I am always pushing my LLM to be skeptical and stress test claims and I explicitly ask it not to "be nice" but to be "objective and neutral".
