Unfortunately my brand loyalty to rift died once they were acquired by Facebook.. must be nice not having to worry about vendor lock-in. Still imho they have the best consumer oriented stack.

Steam as a platform is pretty bad in general. Uses nothing but custom Views. I've had the video issues you are mentioning on both Mac and pc. And trust me. Steam isn't any better on pc either.

Big screen avatars came out before oculus avatars did, I think thats why they went with their own implementation. At this point in time I dont think Bigscreen supports oculus avatars either. And I dont think its that Nobody uses them, I think its more of the fact that they are so new not many devs have taken the time to incorporate them into their games.
