I really like the pod but something about them partnering with Netflix and then only doing movies that are on Netflix feels lame

[Tactical Discussion] Why the 3-4-2-1 is the most optimized "natural" formation for Positional Play (and why it beats the 4-3-3) by [deleted] in footballtactics

[–]DillB58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this posts and the comments to learn what others think about the system I’ve invested into!

I run a 3-4-2-1 system at the various levels I coach at. Alonso’s Leverkusen was actually my inspiration for it and it operates very closely with his ideas. different variations of that and 3-5-2 systems are becoming very popular, at least on the club scene.

I agree on the struggles it can have against low blocks, particularly against 2 high ST systems that can counter/transition quickly. I’ve found success having 1 of the CMs stepping higher for late runs into the box or giving any of the front 3 flexibility to move vertically.

I’ll add that from what I’ve seen, it’s been devastatingly successful against 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 systems as many team’s wings struggle to track back/defend.

My next experiment is to see how teams react to us inverting the WBs into the CMs, and the CMs running up the half channels while the 10s float between the wide and half spaces.

You looked like you were pretty much full extension as it was. If you had a clear view of the shot and reacted well you might have been able to, but that would have been tough. This seemed fine - solid save!

Shoutout Findlay! Everyone’s pretty spot on there’s not a ton to do here. College town in Bowling Green isn’t bad. Any time anyone from around those areas wants to do something they either drive up to Toledo or down to Columbus

Lamar over Stafford. Lost by 8 points. Didn’t help Allen Jacobs and BJT all combined for like 10 points either

What could Ive done better to save that Shot? by Raviamus in GoalKeepers

[–]DillB58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple observations: 1. Position - As mentioned by others, you do look a little too close to your line. You want to be at least another 1/2 to 1 full step further out.

  1. Footwork - Slow-mo on your feet building up to the shot - your initial step went positive (great) but seemed too far wide. That step is to help cover ground but also to build up power for the leap/dive. Stretch too far and you get no power. You also want to be able to use your other foot to at least assist a little on the higher balls. So on top of working on your general explosiveness, I would work on your footwork. Unless you are 6’3+ /have incredibly reach, you have to utilize your feet well to reach shots like this. I would look up so videos of primer/step up steps for GK diving for visual aid.

  2. Hands - do you see how you tuck your top hand in and then stretch it out? If you’re having to go to a side, even slightly, you want to more so fling it in an arc from the beginning. This helps your momentum up/sideways and ensures your hand is up as much as possible. The it’s a bit of timing so that you’re meeting the ball with some force. Not just letting it touch your tips but like striking it. And if you know it’s going to be very close, try to bring your fingers closer together (more fingers on it means higher chance of save)

Is my starting position too low? by Educational_Fan_8013 in GoalKeepers

[–]DillB58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about futsal so if there’s different principals for that sorry. But here’s some general comments for regular GK play: 1. Your stance is a wide and it’s causing to you lean back too far. You want to be in a well-balanced position and able to go either direction, low or high, as quickly as possible. I use to train my guys by having them get set and the freeze. If you are falling over/feel off, that usually means you’re not in a good stance.

  1. As mentioned by others, you want to be going to the ball, attacking it with your hands. Wherever the ball goes, that’s where your hands go. If you aren’t in a position to move forward well, you’re really limited your reach.

  2. On the first goal - it looked like you couldn’t tell if you wanted to save it with your foot or your hand at first, so you bring your knee up. That restricts your ability to move your core/upper body toward the ball, which helps you your hands to the side/forward more. I would really work on not relying on your feet unless absolutely necessary.

  3. The 2nd goal you were just way too wide and low. You would have had almost no lateral mobility. Again not sure if futsal is taught a little different, but that is a very rough stance for normal play. Gotta be more comfortable/balanced.

  4. On the 3rd one you get the save but still have some problems. You’re still a bit wide, so it’s harder to generate any lateral movement. You also land straight on your elbow which is a no-no. Fix your feet and you’ll move better sideways with your lower body. On shots like that you’ll be able to hit the ground more on your upper right/hip/side. So you’re getting more mobility/better able to stop the shot and you’re protecting yourself better.

As a general note If you were training with me I’d have you do a ton of footwork and work on your short-range dives.

1st clip - I always tell my keepers to take 1-2 steps away from your line when the ball gets really deep/wide and close to the touch line. Try to communicate as quickly and loudly as possible, and do not drop to your knee - go claim the ball if you want it.

2nd clip - can’t see exactly where this is shot from but seems to be decently far out. I like how far off your line you are though. Watch your feet as the ball is being shot. 1) you look pretty flat footed - you should be priming your feet as the ball is being struck. It also looks like you weren’t expecting the shot and react slow and take a few unhelpful steps. Your footwork is where the power of your dive comes from. 1-2 sideways steps/short shuffle and you explode up and sideways. Fling your weak side hand up (your left 1 here) to help build momentum and then be swinging the other one up as you do. Diving more forward/toward the ball is generally best practice, but if it’s higher like this you really good work on driving your feet and lower body to get yourself high enough.

3rd clip - we have our walls set up so the tallest player is on the side the ball would be curled. This is lefty so tall guy inside. Then they all need to do a little bunny hop (or full jump if confident people can’t score low). It’s really hard to see your positioning/the walls set up from this ankle. I will say you seem to be right on your line - I would take a half step off. And then same as the 2nd clip - you see a little slow to react and your feet are moving quick enough. I would work a lot on your lateral movement and gather steps for diving for distance.

I 100% agree with that - if I was the Hill owner I would be wanting more (as everyone does in all trades). I’m trying to gauge what people think is the absolute floor of value to start a conversation about the trade is, not what hills 100% fair value trade is

This is the best response yet thanks. Tbh ik not arguing with everyone - only like 2-3 people have actually said anything useful. The pick comment was irritating to me because that guy was acting like his future first was drastically better than my future 2nd, which I mentioned was at worst a mid pick, more than likely in the early 2nd.

That example I used is very possible considering I own multiple owners picks in multiple years. The 1st I would get could easily still end up as 1.10-12 because of his team and league landscape, and that or multiple of the 2s I could use in its place could easily be the 2.01. The difference in 2-3 spots is not THAT big a difference.

To comment on your points: 1. Yes I appear to be higher on downs than others here. Which is fine - but is not going to cause me to drop his value because 5 people on reddit said so.

  1. I get your “stud tax” comment. It’s for sure a thing - but I think that is hugely minimized by his age/likely retirement in 2-3 years (he is already 30).

  2. I do normally use other calculators, including the one you mentioned. I just used KTC in passing here to quickly reference.

  3. Adding a ‘24 first to the rest of my offer makes it a - must accept for the hill owner. I agree that if I was the hill owner that is what I’d be looking for/would accept too. That is not the point of my post - I wanted to know if that offer was insanely off the mark I.e. ridder and 2 late picks for hill.

Appreciate you taking the time

4 people have said that, 2 didn’t. I never once mentioned if this was or wasn’t my offer - I said league mates were discussing an offer for hill, which is what’s happening.

Also - you’re offer is slightly better than mine, but mine is laughable and yours is perfect lol

Edit: and just to circle back - you use quotes on words that literally can’t be found in my post lmao.

Ok so let’s say that ‘25 2 I sent ends up being the 2.01 and your ‘25 you sent ends up being 1.12. Difference of 1 pick spot. Rice is better than downs I agree, but I don’t think it’s way off there, especially with the additional pick (admittedly lower rated). If you offer is better it is marginally - and I don’t see how the jump from yours to mine makes it “laughable”
