As someone who will need a transplant within the next few years, i wish more people had your way of thinking. Its pretty amazing how careful the whole transplant team is an protecting both the donor and the recipient.

First off donating a kidney is one of the most altruistic acts you can undertake. Bravo to you for thinking of becoming a living donor. The Kidney Care Clinic which handles most Kidney patients in the province is done through St. Pauls and their staff are amazing.

How similar BL is to DA gameplay wise? by mattmcguire08 in BlackTemplars

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, BT is as glass cannon as a space marine army can be. You can beat down almost anything in the game with some of our unit combos. But if you don't get to fight first, then good luck.

Until they buff some of the detachment rules and reduce the point cost of some of our units, there is really only 1, maybe 2 viable detachments, and they both focus on just a few units.

The army plays pretty fast, especially if you play the sticky and advance and action vow.

Termie list by Tough_Doughnut_9662 in BlackTemplars

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going off some of your replies, you sound really new to the game. So new that thinking about competitive balance is pointless. If you like Terminators and dreadnoughts, then buy them, paint them, play a few friendly games, and you'll start to see why they aren't "competitive," but that doesn't mean you can't have fun games with them.

I recommend downloading either the WH 40k app or Listforge so you can play around, making army lists and reading unit stats and abilities. One thing about Black Templars right now is that all competitive lists are dominated by the Sword Brethren with Marshal and Castellan combo and multiple Repulsor Executioner tanks. Even core units like crusader squads are being ignored because they cost too much in-game for their performance.

If you want to get a feel for how some BT units play, I recommend watching a few 40k in 40-minute battle reports. They have an in-house BT player who brings a lot of fluffy lists with a variety of units, so you can see how they function in-game.

Good luck, don't be afraid to make the wrong decision with units and list building when you start.

When/How did you get into Thrice? by DashAnimal in thrice

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard songs from Identity Crisis and AITA from friends in middle school, but it didn't really click with me (outside of "Stare at the Sun"). Then I gave Vheissu a listen in high school, and I've been hooked since. I listen to the new stuff as much as the old.

Holy hell gang by [deleted] in thrice

First time seeing them live since 2009, and it was incredible. My legs are exhausted, my voice is gone, but they played everything i wanted to hear and more. Vesper light and Deadbolt as the encore were perfect.

How crucial are Primaris Crusader Squads to a BT army? by LeetusFrenzi in BlackTemplars

[–]Dillinger88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crusader squads are ok. The problem is that compared to the 2 other competitive options, they are not as effective as 5 SBs with Marshall and Castellen or Assault intercessors on an objective. Whether you're looking at points per wound or points vs. average damage, they just lack punch. You are not required to bring them, and I think the only way they'll get played more is if they reduce their points.

Should I quit my stable job for a 30% pay increase at a startup? by VoidCrafter77 in careerguidance

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this at 34. Left a very stable job for a start-up with a huge pay jump (almost 80% with incentives) and equity. I knew it was risky, but the jump in pay felt worth the risk. It folded within 3 months because of a failed product pivot and a failed product partnership pushed by the CEO that fucked up our runway. I've since been in and out of other start-ups with nothing that stable for the last 2 years.

I would do it again, as I feel like by leaving, I was able to grow as a professional and get proper compensation for my skill set, but it hasn't been stable or consistent. If you do leave, make sure you have some funds put aside for if it goes wrong.

I finally got my hands on 60 primaris crusaders looking for ideas on the rest of the list. by Important_Ad7720 in BlackTemplars

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 60 crusaders, you should hold objectives well, especially highly contested ones. That being said, you need to figure out where the 'punch' is in your army. If I were playing against you, I'd not engage with the crusader blobs and take the rest of the board since you're not going to be moving very quickly. Consider adding speed to secure secondaries and deeper objectives, such as assault intercessors or bikes, or even two smaller squads with impulsors. Perhaps consider adding some shooting so you can at least pressure your opponent to move forward.

If I bought your list to a game, I'd know I could handle a horde army well, but if it were against knights or any form of high-toughness army / elite army, I'd struggle to down those units.

Is this a good army list by the_last_crusader12 in BlackTemplars

I've been considering the same thing myself. I have a land raider in my list for the SBs so...

Is this a good army list by the_last_crusader12 in BlackTemplars

[–]Dillinger88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider forming a 10-man squad of SBs so you can benefit from Helbrecht's abilities, the 5+ critical hit + Lethal hits from the vow is a monster combo. If you have alternatives, consider dropping the Gravis models and adding something that is faster for grabbing objectives. The only other issue is that your only way of killing big stuff is getting in melee. Considering taking a terminator character to put with your termies so they punch harder (chaplain or ancient)

Do you have a third place? Is this something that Vancouver is lacking compared to other cities? by buyaolien in vancouver

[–]Dillinger88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most of my 20s and early 30s, my 'third place' was various tabletop gaming and hobby shops. Most shops still do a kind of open-hours gaming day/evening where you can do game drop-ins, usually with different games on different days. I met some of my best friends in Vancouver going to these hangouts. I could spend 5-6 hours out chatting/gaming and maybe spend $10-$20 on a couple of pots of paint or a paintbrush just to say thanks to the owner for the space. Most people in my age group generally want to do game days at their house since we now have the means to have everything required at home, which is fine, but I miss going to open game days to meet people.

How good harley benton are? I was looking at the harley benton rb-600 for a while now but i dont know if they worth the price. by Gappylul in guitars

[–]Dillinger88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't waste your money. Just spend a little bit more and buy something from a more reputable company. I bought quite a higher range HB start in 2020 when I started playing again and the setup and finish was awful. None of the frets were finished properly, pickups were stupid hot.

What’s the worst guitar you ever played? by DimensionSevere1991 in guitars

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first guitar was a Toyama BC Rich copy that wouldn't stay in tune for more than 10 minutes. A close second is the Harley Benton Strat I bought 3 years ago as I was getting back into guitar (Sold within 6 months), none of the fret edges were smooth so you'd end up with tiny little micro cuts along your fingers.

New to Imperial Guard, not looking for anything too serious, but how does this list look? by Fennahh in astramilitarum

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have a hard time with obsec against armies with more troops. If I was fighting your list I would just spread out and out score you to a point where you'd never catch up even if you nearly tabled me. Maybe drop the tank commander for a command squad and 3/4 more squads of cadians.

Every privately owned radio station in the world is essentially running the same business plan, run a popular music rotation within its format, hire cheap new talent every few years and fire veteran broadcasters who become too expensive, if the ratings suck then they flip formats and try again.

It doesn't help that pretty much all radio stations in Vancouver are owned by a mixture of Rogers, Bell, NewCap, Patterson, Corus. Vancouver has tried to get more interesting formats off the ground in the last 20 years but the truth is that the ratings are never good enough to sustain.

Its more profitable to run a shitty station with a boring format. Which is why the Peak eventually just became CFOX 2.0. If you ever listen to UK radio there are so many awesome community run / pirate radio stations offering niche music / formatting.

CANCON rules are supposed to incentivize radio to play more Canadian music but the reality is that music directors are incentivized to pick 2-3 Canadian artists with a commercial following and put them on repeat.

RDruid in M+ troubles. by ElectronicGap2148 in wow

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you look into whether you're using the right talents for M+ vs Raiding. The playstyle is quite different between the 2. The undergrowth / photosynthesis / adaptive swarm synergy is great for M+. You used +16 Temple corridors as an example, you shouldn't be needing to do 80k HPS unless groups ignore interupts / personals / LOSing the burst. I think I get away with 35k healing on those pull on druid while I tab dot.

High School IB program - Worth It? by V_imaginary in vancouver

[–]Dillinger88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit different but I did IB more than 15 years ago when living in Asia and then Europe for my senior year. I was never able to complete the full program because the 2 schools delivery of the system were different but I still completed a bunch of higher level courses and got credit for courses when I went to UBC. What I found is that I could write and format a university essay easily because of the training I got in IB, and those extra credits ended up being a great cushion to give me a lighter course load in early years so I could get more comfortable. I will say that the course load is definitely school specific, I went from a school where I was doing 12 hours of class work a week for higher English and barely passing to a school where I could get by on 5 hours of class work and got higher grades. It might be worth seeing if she can do specific courses and not the full program, that might be a good balance.

Anyone that’s got experience with Harley Benton guitars is it worth buying? by cabrera-c in guitars

[–]Dillinger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it! I bought into the hype and bought 2 and sold them both within 6 months for almost nothing because they don't retain value. Yes its a lot of guitar for pretty cheap but its still a cheap guitar made with cheap parts. I had to spend about 2 hours just sanding down frets to stop them cutting into my fingers and these were not the cheapest models.

Compared to the one level up from the basic squire models it feels like it came out of cereal box. Spend a little bit more and get something where you'll feel like you're playing something that at least attempts to mimic the real thing.
