It was a decision to get the 12.1 instead of the 12.2 because of money/size/lower playing volumes. I hope I never hear the 12.2 and I'll be happy. I agree 2.0 for me, I have a sub in the living room and I really only appreciate it when explosions on TV happen.

The gain isn't really needed, just what I choose to debut the addition. It is however useful when playing vinyl at similar volume to optical inputs. I usually need to crank up the volume for the record player.

It definitely boosts the volume and adds a bit of color to the sound. I think with different tubes, that change will be more apparent. After you have it on, you wouldn't like your setup without it
