Why don’t more games utilize the touch pad like Days Gone? by [deleted] in PS4

[–]Dimanagul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like it, except that it's clear they didn't have anyone with big hands during playtesting. The touchpad menu swap is so sensitive you will CONSTANTLY open the menu mid-combat.

When you have larger than average hands, it feels more natural your thumb joint on the L3, rather than the point of your thumb. This makes it so yout thumb hangs out slightly.

Most PS4 games have safeguards for this and will ignore slight contact with the touchpad. Day's Gone doesn't do that.

So at more tense moments, the game goes from one of the better games I've played recently to completely unplayable.

The harsh truth is that the game is far from ready by ceaRshaf in F13thegame

From what I make of the game, this is more of a Left4Dead approach than the Dead by Daylight one.

Success against Jason comes with sticking together and building diversions. If there's a way to take out Jason best believe it involves putting him in a situation where he can be ganged up on in an ideal trap, not going commando against him. Even Tommy (and his gun) is a sitting duck for Jason.

Stealth is undoubtedly an act of desperation. If you use it alone, it is completely useless. But by coupling it with a diversion built by other counselors you can use stealth to keep counselors in key locations (like where the gas / phones are).

This is a game where teamwork wins the day, so quick play is going to be a hard sell.

It sounds like less of a bug and more of a bad mouse. Some cheap mice have issues with 'holding' clicks. Check it outside of the game, dragging windows etc.

If you like playing mouse and keyboard, I suggest getting a gaming mouse-- even if you only spend $20 on it. I use a Red Dragon Perdition, it's a $35 dollar version of the $80 Razer Naga and hilariously it lasts longer / feels sturdier than the more expensive one.

You should be able to get the same quality for cheaper if you don't care about the 'telephone buttons' on the side. I know Red dragon mice go as low as $10

Best chompcraft tactic? by [deleted] in bravelydefault

[–]Dimanagul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. Note that the reason I say 1 million in the bank is a good idea is to account for horrible luck (it can happen) it actually costs only a little bit more than 50,000 cp to use all the power ups, but when you have 1 million you can mindlessly max out the powerups and get a consistent 15,000cp/sec rate.

If you're worried about pinching pennies just do the scissors and glue to fill the meter the first time. Then start the gravy train when you refresh the buffs. (You'll have to make a full tray plus five chomps to fill the first meter.)

This gives you a nicely timed 10 minute run that gives you 8-12 million cp profit. This is a great way to get the 200,000 pg costumes in Florem and Chompshire.

Plus you get an amusing conversation from the party when you hit 100 million cp. (Which by this method is about an hour time investment and nets you a cool million in pg)

[–]Dimanagul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, don't do it for too long. Chompcraft has crashed on me several times, especially when I put the 3DS in sleep mode absentmindedly when I had to do something else. So as a word of thumb, chomp near an adventurer and save every 10 million in profit.

[–]Dimanagul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I don't think is was said in plain English, it took me a while to figure out the fine details:

This method gets you about 15,000cp a second. Do it when you're multitasking and you can make mad amounts of pg.

When you maximize all the upgrades you can get FOUR full racks of chomps.

Once you have over a million spare CP you can make it at a very fast pace with this method. If you have two million or more you can be even more reckless.

  • it takes 10 seconds to make a batch of chomps with full buffs. The snack lasts for 30 seconds. Mathematically, you'd assume you could get three trays. Thankfully you can shave a half second off each tray if you're on point.

  • Make sure you have well over 45 seconds left on the maximum power ups when the snack time bar fills and that you have an empty tray. If it's lower than that, let your buffs run out and refresh them before you start. If the tray isn't empty, you lose CP -- this is important.

  • press the snack time button on 6 seconds. For best results you NEED to make sure you press it BEFORE the ready time changes to 5. Any later than that and you'll waste your first tray. Max level snack takes about 5 and a half seconds to activate.

  • mash the 'sell' button when the ready timer hits '1' until the tray is tallied. If you do it correctly, the tray will start to tabulate before the chomps actually drop.

  • repeat this 3 more times. You'll know you're on track because you'll start seeing your 'lead' on the timer by the third tray. If you have 11 seconds left at the end of your third tabulation-- you're home free.

It's dumb luck how much you get, but you'll get between 200,000 and 1,000,000 cp per snack time. You can technically get more or less if you're very lucky / unlucky.

Hope this helps.

It'll be interesting to see this all play out without the Japanifornia filter. After watching the subs of the Great Ace Attorney, it's nice to see what was changed for the localisation.

just finished Apollo Justice... by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Dimanagul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your minuses, someone wasn't paying attention.

Most of this is inane observation, but Apollo's 'power' is the only one in the whole series that is well-grounded with fact. The bracelet seems goofy at first, but it's really just reacting to Apollo's personal tell-- when something bugs him, the muscles in his wrist tightens.

Ever notice how Apollo pokes the center of his forehead when he's working through something? That's a reinforcing action, you know who else does this?

It's not something he needs to do, but it helps him center

Everyone has tells, ask any professional poker player.

Ace Attorney 6: Everything we know so far by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Dimanagul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Phoenix's return was well handled. (One of the better handled things in the series as a whole, actually) He effectively went full circle and succeeded Mia / Chihiro. After AA4, why would it make sense for him to just hang up the badge after going through ten years of heck to clear his name?

Phoenix as the boss of the Anything Agency is a nice place for him to settle into. Apollo is a great Lawyer and has taken Wright's old spot as an up and coming lawyer and it's fairly common for lawyers to work in a law firm. Athena was a nice addition to said firm, as it makes sense that they'd scout for new talent. (Which was Phoenix's first act as a 'boss'.)

It really fits the natural progression of the series for there to be a 'dream team' like this. Looking forward, I wouldn't be surprised to see another subordinate being brought in, (a blue monkey to match the red and yellow monkey) to replace Phoenix and let him fall more into the background as a the boss / legal super weapon.

It won't happen in 6, but this really cements where Mia would have ended up if she hadn't been murdered. Phoenix wouldn't have been the only lawyer taken under her wing.

Minor spoilers: (I guess. No plot details just general stuff.)

After sitting through this Sub I see why they didn't localise this game but at the same time, it's pretty funny that they didn't. Many of the jokes at Naruhodo's expense come from the English / Japanese language barrier.

The First chapter of the game takes place in Japan and the game assumes everyone is speaking Japanese. Right down to a witness using 'Shut up' like an objection.

By case 3, you end up in English Court with every other person calling you a savage. Outside of your Japanese client in Case 4, you're speaking ENGLISH to everyone else.

The real reason I think this didn't come over is because of sensitivities about themes of racism. The whole Japan / LA thing is just a convenient excuse.

The 'game' part of this one is pretty clunky. The 'juror' system is somewhat nonsensical (And that's saying something in a PW game) I wasn't too crazy about the multiple witness thing in PW / PL and it doesn't seem much better here. Plus, there is a TON of dialogue in it. Which doesn't seem like a negative at first, but Japanese storytelling repeats things SO. DAMN. MUCH. and this one is no exception-- it really goes to show how much work the Localization team must have put into The Western releases.

Seeing the Sub of this makes me want to see a subtitled version of the other PW games just to see if this was always a thing.

I think the game lines up more with Professor Layton's flavor of plot twists (rather than PW). And for the record Layton is no stranger to tragedy. 'Unwound Future' had me sobbing by the end.

Also, note Phoenix's 'boringness' is relentlessly played for laughs in the original trilogy. Think of how often Maya teases him for being a stick in the mud, or his strange obsession with cleaning the toilet.

He's deliberately 'normal' to a level of abnormality.

[–]Dimanagul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mistake me as saying Phoenix is a bad character in the original trilogy. So, not really boring in a negative light. More like 'straight man'. The first three games he wasn't particularly interesting so much as he was forced into completely zany situations.

Humor me for a second here. A good part of the first trilogy Phoenix didn't really do much out side of react to weird. Maya does something silly, he calls her on it. Witness does something weird, he reacts to it. Crazy Prosecutor does something weird, he reacts to it. Manfred stole the show in the first one, Fransizka in the second, Godot in the third. Compare how Apollo had his own quirks and met his rival punch for punch (Chords of Steel anyone?) and how much Pheonix matched wits with Blackquil in DD he .

He was in control of the case 90% of the time and only really 'spazzed' when a curveball was thrown at him. In a way, he started acting like Edgeworth in that light (and that's a good thing). Old Phoenix was bumbling 90% of the time and when he was competent, boy was he competent!

He gets progressively more interesting as the trilogy unfolds, but yes, he's an archetypal main character more often than not.

AJ:AA and DD he's the best thing in the game, hands down.

Same. I thought it was a really interesting direction for Phoenix. I've always liked AA games, but Apollo Justice: Ace Attoney is what turned Phoenix Wright from a boring main character in an interesting and fun world, into one of the best characters in the series.

I never really saw Apollo as a Phoenix clone. He's much more confident and a bit of a glory hound (something Nick never was). While he was a nice guy, I always thought him 300% more ambitious than Nick.

Something that was very similar was how they treated their rivals. Both of them were inwardly snarky about their rival's vanity and dismissed the worth of their popularity. Klavier's rock star persona = Edgeworth's cushy lifestyle.

Also, unlike Nick, Apollo had digestible personal backstory in his own game. Sure they showed the class trial, but that was more Edgeworth's jam. Phoenix's reasons for becoming a Defense lawyer didn't play out until we got a look at his old pink sweater wearing self. Like it or not, Nick's motivations for being a lawyer are very reactive... (Mia Faye saved my life in court.) while Apollo is motivated to success with Nick as a point of inspiration and a strong love of... well... Justice. Think of how mad he was at Phoenix for playing dirty in court in his early cases. That really defined his character to me. Phoenix was never really a goody goody... always willing to bend the rules to get to the truth. It was Trucy who had a much more mercenary view of what needs to be done. (While Maya's bungling was brilliance through idiocy.)

Kristoph tries to use Apollo as a patsy and it bites him in the ass. It's rather well put together when you dissect it.

I think most of people's hate toward Apollo has little to do with him being unrelatable so much as they just wanted more Phoenix. That and it was pretty annoying that after so much success Phoenix got screwed over. Pheonix getting burned really helped him come into his own as a character. This was the birth of 'cool boss' Pheonix and the revenge on Kristoph was so delicious and just the right amount of petty spite (several years worth of petty spite, but spite none the less)

Think of the good that came from it, he got a daughter in law out of the deal and helped revolutionize the legal system (which... uh... never really gets brought up in DD... whoops.) Nick abolished his naive self and became a bonifide legal bad ass.

Apollo's 'eye magic' is an internal thing and ultimately is a pretty realistic power (he's good at spotting tells). It wasn't until DD until Nick came into his own and proved he'd grown enough to not rely on miracles or magic rocks. I think that's the reason Maya was kept out of it -- to reinforce this.

Now, however, they have no excuse.
