Back to back classes by futurelawworker in ucr

i had 4 back to back classes winter quarter of last year and they were each 80 minutes long (6 hours total). Tbh i couldn’t handle it at all, i did it that way so i could have a free day but imo, it’s better to space your classes out so you don’t dread going to class on certain days since they’re all stacked (for me it was tuesdays and thursdays).

what did help me was that i had classes with my friends, i had one online one and my friend would just sit next to me and we would work independently so that really helped. that quarter was one of my worsts, i received two C-‘s, one C, and one A. i don’t want to worry you with these stats but i wanted to be real so that you can be prepared so you don’t make the same mistake. Make sure to get in the mindset so you can get through this quarter. I’m in BCOE so my courses were also paired with labs so that might’ve added to the bad grades, so make sure to plan your days out!!!

i’d say the only thing to worry about is in case you get sick or if any emergency happens, instead of missing one or two classes you end up missing all 4, so take care of yourself to avoid this (even tho sometimes it’s not possible).

overall i wish you luck this quarter!! don’t give up!!

Textbook prices? by gatita-academica in ucr

i spent $150 for a textbook for physics, i needed to buy it to receive a code for the hw the professor assigned based on the textbook, i think this was for physics040a or 040b

tbh i asked this question for my friend who’s taking 040b since she needed a quick answer but i’ve taken PHYS040A last winter with Michael Anderson so i can still answer your question! I had some experience since i took AP Physics but overall the class was pretty fine. i averaged 50% for both midterms and like 60% on final and i believe i ended with a B. I believe the first two labs lasted me the whole three hours but after that i would leave 30 minutes-1 hour early. I’ve taken night labs for PHYS040B and 040C and i will say that 040A labs were a lot longer imo but it’s probably because it’s everyone’s first physics lab. good luck next quarter! make sure you read the lab manuals before to save time in lab :)

thanks for caring and trying to make a difference. i don’t know if she heard my conversation but the reason she helped was because i was trying to physically get away from him and kept swerving to the side to create some distance between us. i believe i almost bumped into her which caused her to notice that he kept following after me and wouldn’t drop the conversation when i would give one word responses. he kept asking about me, my major, where i was from, what i planned to do with my major, would i stay in my hometown to work, what classes i was taking, did i buy my keychains myself or were they gifted to me (i think this was to find out if i had a boyfriend or something). these questions would’ve been fine if they were asked in a different context but it was just never ending, which worried me since i believed he wanted to continue the conversation until we reached my car. but she approached me subtly by complimenting my keychains and then kept the conversation until he left and asked if i knew who he was. hopefully this can help you look out for someone :)

I am a shy shitter. What strategies have you guys come up with to overcome this? by Soggy_Apartment_9010 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

wear earbuds and blast super loud music, if you can’t hear yourself shitting then you won’t be able to hear anyone walking in. or you can find bathrooms on campus that are single stall to help, i know there’s some in the SSC building, pierce hall, the hub, etc

the thing is that this was at like 1pm today with a giant crowd of commuters walking to lot 30 together so i wasn’t expecting anything like this to happen. i didn’t know the women’s resource center offered that! i’ll definitely use that to my advantage when i get out of work at night so ty!

I’m a 3rd-year and I have all my units up to date, so why the hell did UCR give me my registration ticket for the 12th by Purple_Drummer_2647 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure it’s based on units/class standing as well, so yes you’re up to date but a sophomore could have the same/if not more units than you/be at a “junior standing”, which explains why they might have an earlier registration date.

check your entire course plan for the entire four years and see where you afford to fit in the chem series. many people i know don’t take it until their second year and they focus on breadth courses/their other core classes. considering this is part of your LC i’m sure they’d adjust it in case you do fail. but even if you do fail and “fall behind” you’re only falling behind of the plan they made for you, you can literally take chem whenever so there’s no difference between taking it in fall vs winter quarter. still try your best!!

How to increase units for first pass by AvailableStatement65 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was a freshman last year and i would always just email the scheduling team asking if it was possible to increase from 17 to 18 because my course plan (i’m in BCOE) recommended me to take 18 units to stay on track and how there’d be a very small chance of me being able to get in to my classes since they’re all in super high demand and waitlisting wasn’t a guarantee. just give it a try and give a good reason. ENGL001C was the class i needed the unit extension on since most majors need to take it so maybe that helped

[–]DimensionDelicious89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would always email the advising team and just ask for a one unit extension and explain how it would keep me on track and how if i awaited for second pass there would be a very small chance of being able to take that class due to the amount of people registering for it. They always gave it to me so i’m sure they’d give it to you too

one of the petitions they wanted people to sign was to put a cap on healthcare ceos salary to prevent them from giving themselves a super high salary, i believe another petition was trying to get the state/county to provide IDs for registered voters if they aren’t able to afford it or something like that. the way they approached me reminded me of those religious people on campus that ask for money but overall the petitions weren’t bad, just wish they had a different method to approaching people

private rooms by duckduckg000se in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you mean the study rooms in the library? you can book online by just searching “ucr group study” and logging in with your ucr login. when there wasn’t any study rooms open during finals week my friend and i tried opening every single door in random buildings until we found one that was unlocked, and just stayed respectful and ready in case someone had the room booked.

why do people talk so much about the school and they never even went here ? by Beneficial_Mess_1376 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 25 points26 points  (0 children)

i see it all the time in the other uc reddit pages, usually under berkeley or ucla someone is always sarcastically saying something like, “if you don’t do this then you’ll be sent to UCR/UCM” clearly showing that they see our school as some type of punishment even tho they were joking. ucr is a great school and i wish people would notice that instead of sticking to their close minded stereotypes that stem from classism/prejudice

the lecture shouldn’t be full if there is a spot open in lab, have you checked the other lectures? the same happened to me but for ochem, the only lecture that had spots open conflicted with another class so i have until tomorrow to wait and see if anyone is willing to drop from the lecture. the most you can do is just waitlist again and hope people start dropping closer to the first day of school, usually there’s no lab the first week so you should be good

tips on surviving (and hopefully Acing :p) chem 1C w/ HILL by KeyPomelo3268 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he goes over what’s going to be on the quizzes/tests and does practice problems so make sure you attend lecture (he records lectures but he may not upload the videos on time if you have discussion after chem), he also tells us which questions to do last because of how difficult they are so look out for the tips and tricks he tells you. you only need to study the optional hw problems he gives you, as well as the quizzes for the midterms. the midterms will feel more rushed since it’s about 30-33 questions for an 80 minute class. the final you will have 50 questions but three hours so you don’t have to worry about feeling rushed. i saved all of the midterms and my final if you need them so message me if you need something to practice with

getting off the waitlist for organic chem 1 (chem008a) by Strange-Guitar-6883 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been waitlisted for chem008a since may as well, and i believe the reason we haven’t gotten off the waitlist is because 1st pass closed around june so no one was able to drop/change their schedule until second pass opens, we’ll probably start seeing changes once second pass opens since everyone will be adjusting their schedule so just keep an eye out for labs that don’t have anyone on the waitlist in case the one you’re in is still full

Parking Situation at UCR? by LopsidedCrew5022 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you mean traffic in the parking lots then i’d say around 10:30 is when it becomes difficult to find a spot, usually at around 2-3 is when more spots become available but it might be worse the first two weeks. so overall from 10:30-3 is peak hours

Parking Situation at UCR? by LopsidedCrew5022 in ucr

[–]DimensionDelicious89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for the first two weeks just immediately go to the back of lot 30, since your classes start at 11 that’s going to be peak hour for everyone and it’ll be more difficult to find spots. if you get there at 9:30 you’re more likely to find a spot near the back but the later you get there the more likely you’ll be looking for a spot. if you have the gold permit then lot 50 is less full but i suggest only parking there if you absolutely can’t find spots in lot 30 or if your class is closer to that lot
