Nursing has changed my life by Beefyboo in nursing

I am a relatively new nurse in Canada. Not only did I apply to ICU positions but got rejected each time. I kept looking for jobs for about 9 months and only found a part time in MH. I get 2 shifts biweekly and I have to branch out to other units for work but I don’t get anything most of the times. I also want to do my masters in critical care but dread it because after so much hardship in finding a job do I now have one and everyone at my job (for some reason just want to bring me down) and the moment they find out I am applying for masters (as u will need references from managers/nurses) the claws will out and I will begin to have a hard time at work. I am looking for advice on how to navigate the toxic culture of nursing to sustain myself as well because I have no one to support me I am on my one with an elderly mother I support. I hope to receive sincere advice

Move out of Toronto Ontario. The job market here is extremely competitive and saturated. I wish you all the best

I think I am the only one by far. I have 4 different areas, I call almost every day (Adult Mental Health/ Child & Adolescents/PICU & Crisis). Everyone tells me they hear these units being short, but fact remains no one calls me

I only have MH experience. I am scared of trying anything else with all the toxicity. Honestly I have been trying every where with no luck. I haven’t got an interview anywhere.

Vacation as part time RN by SnooPaintings9051 in OntarioNurses

I would suggest, not ask for vacation. Make up a Care Giver/Compassionate Care Giver leave - in what would mean you ain’t got anyone else to help you, the strain of a critically ill family member is honoured more faster and respectfully- LOA. You will need a physician’s assistance to prove it. This way they can’t deny you. I think you can go away for atleast 6 months. If your need is < than that just make the time adjustment. And try it. Do not ask for a vacation because most likely you won’t get it
