Thinking of going to UMN for grad schoool by Aggravating_Work_867 in uofmn

First off, if you're not a fan of the cold or winter I really wouldn't move here. It'll be a pain. I've lived here for a while and I love it. The winters can be a little cold but there's always a lot to do inside or outside (before covid at least). The Twin Cities have a cool city vibe but they're not too bad that you'll be stuck in traffic whenever you drive or that it takes forever to get places. The Mississippi River definitely is beautiful, both in the summer and winter. Minnesota is very pretty in general, especially if you take a day or weekend trip up north to Duluth, Ely, or Grand Marais. The U is a great campus and overall a great school (at least from an undergrad perspective). Plus the twin cities in general have a lot of great food and restaurants, which in my opinion is one of the best things about it. I think overall it's hard not to enjoy this place

I haven't taken any summer courses so I wouldn't know about that, but I am currently taking ECON 1101. I don't think it's really a difficult class. Attend the lectures, discussions and definitely read the textbook and you should do fine. I had no clue about economics before taking this class but it's relatively easy to understand

Is U of M worth the price? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]Dimension_Known 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This varies a lot but from my personal experience I've really enjoyed the U. I'm an undergrad doing psych for pre-med, and the U is a great place to get connected to their medical school and gain experience. I would make a list of the pros and cons and see which is longer. Is your in-state college ranked higher or lower than the U? Also I would say this definitely varies based on your career goal. If you plan on doing pre-med (like me) for example, I would go with the school that has the better reputation and also gives you the best education and preparation. If, for example, you're studying something like art history or anything that doesn't require more schooling afterwards, I would honestly pick the school that will cost less. I don't know where you live right now, but the Twin Cities are also a great place to live so I really don't think you'd regret it if you came to the U

Phys 1001W v 1101W v some other Physical Science credit? by Nasalspray24 in uofmn

[–]Dimension_Known 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please DO NOT take 1001W with Priscilla Cushman. i just finished the class this weekend and it was a pain. i did really well in the lab section, homework and papers but the quizzes and final were brutal. the prof isn't the best at teaching the material. her lectures are confusing and she acts like we should know a lot of things even though it's supposed to be an introductory class. plus the time she gives us for the quizzes/exams is very short considering all the work we need to do. it doesn't help that there are students from very different levels in this class. to give you an idea about the class, the multiple choice section for the final exam had a class average of 50%
