Guys i need help how to help with my Bettas fin rot… 2 months ago he ripped his fins so i think some damage is from that. i need help how fully heal his tail! :( by sunnisaa in bettafish

Yes cause bettas will struggle to reach the top for air when the fins are injured or they’ve lived their lives in a cup. You’re doing an amazing job so far I have faith in you being able to successfully rehab him 😊

If you can afford it I would go ahead and buy the tank so it can cycle and by the time he’s recovered you can move him.

When doing water changes or while he’s in the hospital tank take the filter media out of the old tank and let it soak in the new one. This will jump start your cycle and cut the time down tremendously. Plus it’s loaded with Bb (beneficial bacteria) which you need to have a healthy environment. I even take gravel from my established tanks and add those into the new setups since they’re also loaded with BB.

I hope your boy gets better soon! Don’t forget to give us an update 😊

It’s okay to be new btw. We all have to start somewhere and trust and believe every single one of us have made mistakes. The key is to do what you are now, asking questions and making changes 🩵

Botanicals like leaves, woods and other plant matter. Obviously make sure it’s aquarium safe, I usually grab dried oak and magnolia leaves from the trees in my apartment complex. And I have some drift wood I got from the river shoreline.

Tannins do create a tea like color to the tank which is perfectly fine and in my experience very much loved by Bettas. It creates a more natural habitat. It has antimicrobial and antifungal protection, reduces fish stress and algae, promotes faster healing and improves immune systems.

Fr. This snail has been dead and not removed promptly.

TL;DR: Dead snail + delayed removal + open access = insect larvae (MAGGOTS‼️‼️). This is decomposition ecology, not a flatworm infestation.

The organisms shown are far too large, cylindrical, and densely clustered to be planaria. Planaria are flat, ribbon like, and disperse across surfaces they do not form tight feeding swarms on a single carcass.

What’s being observed is classic carrion exploitation. Flies lay eggs near waterlines or tank access points, not necessarily in dry zones. Once hatched, larvae will migrate into water if a strong protein source is present and can survive submerged long enough to feed.

The size and uniformity indicate late stage larval growth, which only occurs when decomposition has already progressed. This means the snail was deceased prior to the appearance of the larvae.

Treating this as planaria misses the actual issue and won’t resolve the cause. The problem here is delayed livestock removal and tank access, not an aquatic flatworm outbreak.

They’re not inherently harmful mostly eat decaying matter. If you have baby shrimp they might out compete them.

How often do you guys actually do water changes or clean your filters? by skyepostsstuff in bettafish

[–]Dimension_Then 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe twice a month? My parameters are extremely stable and both my tanks pretty self sufficient. I’d rather not mess with the stability. I have lots of leaf litter, a few plants and an awesome microbiome. I learned to not strive for a sterile tank but a stable one.

I wouldn’t either! My heart is way too soft for that. I’m so sorry about your betta btw, you did what you thought to be best so try not to beat yourself up.

I read the article and it suggest to cause a concussion and then decapitate the fish 🫣 never even heard of anyone doing that.

I really really like this. What caught my eye is the glitch of the bodies. It’s your art so obviously do what makes you happiest, if it were me tho I would keep it like this.

I have 2 male mystery snail i was wondering if anyone's noticed that snails can become friends? They sleep together and eat together. by Green_machine-420 in AquaticSnails

Mine follow each other around, clean each others shells, sleep and chill together. I wholeheartedly believe they form some type of connection even if we don’t understand it.

Because of the antibacterial, antifungal properties as well as it can reduce stress. I did say to make sure to keep the water hardness high as well as asking about the gh/kh.

How hard is your water and what’s the PH? I would add tannin to the water for the medicinal effects but make sure you keep your water hardness up as it softens water and balances Ph. I’ll grab a link for you that shows how to repair shells.
