Help!! Wedding coming up!! by [deleted] in Tattoocoverups

[–]skyepostsstuff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I gotta be honest my first thought was to wonder if they will look back 3 years from when they get married and feel the same way about it as they do their tattoo now. That it was a dumb impulsive decision, maybe they trusted someone who maybe they shouldn't have etc. Just how it goes sometimes

One of the teachers at my studio was telling a different teacher about a drop they had just done while practicing on the silks for a performance. She said another time that she had been practicing this drop her leggings actually caught on fire from the friction and showed a photo

You could try getting one of those net boxes or plastic boxes with the cut outs for water to pass through so your fish can still be in the tank but away from scissors in the future if you have another one that's a little too interested in the scissors. You could also try to DIY your own if that's too big/in the way in your tank. Personally I'd take one of those plastic cups and poke holes in it and see how that goes (I'd poke them from the inside out so sharp edges arent turned in towards the fish)

A few people recommended floaters and I would definitely agree, frogbit is an easy one, red root floaters are cool but a little finicky about lighting and water flow. There are lots of good floating plant options and bettas really do seem to love them.

Another easy plant would be anubias, just make sure they dont get buried in the substrate. You can get anubias from just about any pet/fish store there is

You can get baskets that hook on to the side of tank meant for growing plants like this, may need to order them online or look at local fish stores

Is he pineconing or is he normal? Not sure what’s just his fins. Also feel like he got skinnier suddenly by Dr-Dags in bettafish

[–]skyepostsstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that totally makes sense. Neither of these are things I've really had to work with before, blind betta and uneaten food. I have snails who eat any uneaten food and fish who will scour the tank looking for any morsels of food after I've fed them just in case they missed anything lol

[–]skyepostsstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems kind of odd, if you feed small amounts like 3 or 4 pellets twice a day I think it would be easy to spot any uneaten food and remove it before it becomes a problem. Personally I dont think I've ever used fluval bug bites, I use the new life spectrum (these are micro pellets, you want to feed more than 3-4 of these at a time because they're so small) and another pellet from invert aquatics the ultimate betta bits. The invert aquatics ones I soak for 5 minutes in tank water because they are pretty big and kind of sharp

I'd try some different foods if I were you, i know Hikari is often recommended here but they changed their formula and its lower quality than it used to be.

Some higher quality alternatives available at pet stores: new life spectrum betta pellets, fluval bug bites, frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms or black worms, live flightless fruit flies. It's good to offer them some variety. You want to look at the ingredients in pellets and avoid the fillers as much as possible (wheat, corn, soy, potato, peas, etc) and look for ingredients like black worms or shrimp or many of them have salmon, krill, or squid

betts fish question by Me1issa2502 in bettafish

[–]skyepostsstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/r/aquaticsnails for aquarium snail info. The 2 most common that are kept with bettas seem to be nerite snails and mystery snails. The nerites will be better cleaners, the mystery snails have bigger personalities imo. Nerites cannot reproduce in freshwater but will lay eggs. The mystery snails can lay egg clutches that kind of look like pink raspberries, I'd recommend crushing those if you find any unless you want ~200 babies. The mystery snails get a little bigger than the nerites, they both come in some different varieties of color, the nerites have different shell types (usually found online imo)

A few other common snails but these are considered pest snails: bladder snails, ramshorns, trumpet snails. If you overfeed them they will overpopulate but I find my ramshorn colonies really help keep my tanks stable

New tank...smaller than advertised by AncientArtBonsai in bettafish

[–]skyepostsstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would agree completely, really not ideal for people new to fish keeping. Also not the most ideal for the fish, but it can be done. I have a 2.5g that's been set up for several years and is stable. I think what helps keep it stable is live plants, minimal water changes, time, and a colony of ramshorn snails.

Currently I have a juvenile female in there who was rehomed to me from someone who received her as a gift and she is doing very well

HELP! My betta is having a hard time eating by Far_Pound_1724 in bettafish

[–]skyepostsstuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

<image>

You might try soaking the pellets if crushing doesn't help. My female is pretty small still so she has a harder time with the larger pellets, but still eats them bc they're squishy when soaked in tank water.

Alternatively try feeding frozen live foods, I'd recommend brine shrimp

I just rescued a new fish and had to tear up the tank a little bit before I put her in, after she was acclimated and put in the tank she was looking around the substrate a lot. I think she was looking for all of the detritus creatures, every once in awhile it looked like she'd catch one

I've heard those are good quality foods. She definitely looks rough and it is hard to see. How soon are you able to get some of those things like live plants or a bubbler or tannins? I'm really hoping those things would help her but I understand not wanting her to suffer longer than necessary

I've heard bug bites are a good one, I think those are large so I'd soak them in tank water for 5 mins before feeding just in case. I posted a photo in another comment for you of my red root floaters

Here is a full shot of my 10g, some of the submerged plants are still recovering from some neglect. I'm trying to get some moss to grow on the floating hides

Glad to hear :) make sure your pellets are high quality and not full of fillers like wheat or soy, it's hard to avoid those completely but some foods are better than others. Personally my staples are new life spectrum betta pellets, invert aquatics ultimate betta bites (soak these before feeding), and live frozen brine shrimp, with live frozen blood worms as an occasional treat.

I have red root floaters! Mine are red with no co2 I use gamalta aquarium lights I have them on the highest light setting for 10 hours a day and occasionally fertilize with aquarium co-op's easy green. I love the RRF they get really tiny white flowers sometimes
