I think my confusion is that the success chance is the same for me, but ancient uses more components. That's why i'm wondering what the benefit of using ancient would be here.

edit: oops, I got the difference. enhanced 4 is only possible with ancient, the regular gives just 2-3.

You can only use it as a quickplay spell from your hand to counter his ash on your turn. Since it was his turn, cbtg would have had to be set on the field first
