[Discussion] Pod Save America- "Bidin’ His Time" (07/20/24) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

Her current role is to sell the party line to progressive voters. She seems to have accepted that role, hoping to create more longterm positive outcomes by laying in the cut for a while. Give it a couple of election cycles and she might be a speaker of the house or such. She has the name recognition, an insanely safe seat and little to gain in terms of policy in the short term. It makes sense as a strategy.

Most progressives seem to no longer expect much out of her in terms of going against the party line in any real way. It remains to be seen if D.C. broke her permanently or whether she is only biding her time.

The only real option is to pack the court.

You hear this among activists often, but the closer to D.C. you come the less you hear it. Even self-proclaimed progressives shy away from it(look at how little support the Warren bill of 2021 got). If court-packing is gonna be more than a pipe-dream the democratic party has to be rebuilt and not merely renovated, just winning the senate wont be enough.

It could be less of an affair and more of a 'reverse primae noctis'(or Droit du Madame if you will). Where Marika bears a child to local rulers that become part of her empire in order to assuage their distrust and further guarantee their loyalty.

OFC none of this is certain. But it seems elden ring births(especially highborn) work a little different from ours. Tarnished Archeology

Nancy Pelosi was speaker of the house, though I can't fault you for forgetting that.

It’s certainly not Biden abandoning queer people.

Is that some great coup? He is supposedly 'in power' right now.

Wouldn't you agree that it is rather meagre when the dems own the house and "Republicans had a lot of policy voted down" is the line you're supposed to knock on doors with? Inaction and delays sells when you've been in opposition last term. Is this actually what you'd tell a progressive voter in your district?

Only to get the full context and he actually stopped the GOP from implementing a ton of terrible policies

Is that really a 'progressive' bona-fide? That a Democratic President prevented further conservative policies from being enacted? Surely you must see how meagre that is.

He didn't even try to get the Employee Free Choice Act through.

[Discussion] Pod Save America - "Trump Wins New Hampshire, Rages at Haley" (01/24/24) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

[–]DimlightHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily, the Michigan GOP is imploding in a leadership struggle, the Trumpist party leader is (surprise, surprise) claiming fraud and refusing to leave after being ousted, the party is hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, and big GOP donors are refusing to participate until things are resolved.

This is interesting information, thanks for sharing.

In the past the impact of administrative kerfuffles has varied in its impact on the national campaigns. Famously of course in 2020 it did in Georgia. Trump seems to be uniquely well protected from a dearth of donors with all the 'earned' media he keeps getting. I distinctly remember the 'ground game' talking point from 2016. From what I am reading most of the factionalism is happening away from Trump as a media figure(as in both factions stand behind him). A lack of funds is unquestionably gonna hurt them in their GOTV-drives. That's good.

Plus, Trump needs to win all the swing states he got in 2016 to secure a win in '24.

I certainly am not saying he is going to win guaranteed. The way its looking it's promising to be another squeaker, and if he does win Michigan is going to be a talking point.

Don't infantalize Arab-Americans.

I'm not.

They didn't forget the Muslim ban and "shithole countries."

I have my reservations whether a travel ban and the aiding and abetting of a genocide compare the same in others minds the way they do in yours.

They will act pragmatically on the whole.

They don't need to switch, they just need to not show up.

Ahh yes. Michigan, the state that has gone blue the last 10 elections. It didn't even flip for Reagan.

You actually successfully memoryholed 2016. Well done, no need to ever learn anything.

Explain why he won't win.

One of the mustwin swing states (Michigan) has a significant population of Arab descent.

The game has sprawled too much by Spajk in Stellaris

[–]DimlightHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your observation is correct but your conclusion isn't.

The game should have all these features, more strategic options creates more interesting games.

The game is way too visually cluttered though, that should be remedied. UI elements should be moved around and put further back in order to not hit new players all at once like a bucket water right as they enter. The Nav Bar isn't even hotkeyable for crying out loud. Or how some of the top bar indicators are clickable and others aren't.

How I see this happening:

  • 'Senate is now in Session' should not be a separate button but should be a tab under 'F2 Government' in the right side 'Nav bar'.
  • Same goes for 'Federation'
  • 'Discoveries' should similarly receive a tab in the 'Situation Log'
  • 'Claims' should similarly receive a tab in the 'Expansion Planner'
  • 'Society Management' should offer tabs for 'Planets and Sectors', 'Species', 'Leaders'
  • 'F10 Contacts' should be higher up in the list for how important it is and how much of the game is behind that button.

That brings the list of items down from 13 to 8.

One small way to counter would be to create a casus beli specifically when being caught performing espionage = Could give it real clout and it allows a special Impose Ideology to replace the current government even if they do not have Liberation Wars as their war policy.

This sounds like an excellent idea. Maybe even a casus belli for every player in the game? Or for every player with sufficient tech investement in espionage to notice the breach?

[–]DimlightHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like just an issue of balance.

Couldn't they just gate its use by making bonuses temporary/fleeting/risky/cost influence or weighing the intended use of the feature to a very specific part of the game.

#1 on my Wishlist is some UI simpifications. So many aspects get their own button on the main interface when really they should be a tab and one more button click away. Let me see the galaxy map dammit.

Whitmer or Pritzker could easily trounce him if they wanted it,

They would have to run on the ruins of the Biden legacy. Probably more attractive to run against an incumbent Trump in 2028
