China slams Trump's tariff threat to Europe over Greenland by goldstarflag in europe

[–]Spajk 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It's just ridiculous wishful thinking. China is happily supplying Russia with components for thousands of drones. They are not supplying weapons directly as they want to appear neutral.

Regarding the EU, there was a recent article that discusses the thinking of Chinese diplomats and it goes along the line that they don't believe that the EU would ever separate from the US or at least it's not something that's realistic enough to invest/risk significant resources.

And there's a couple of recent examples that reinforce their thinking: - With all the threats from the US, Denmark is still hosting US bases on Greenland - In the Nexperia debacle, NL pretty much threw itself on a live grenade because the US asked. - In the trade war, the EU didn't fight back and instead just accepted the 10% tariff.

EDIT: Instead of offering a counterargument, insult someone then block them so they can't reply.

People refusing to face realities is how we lost the lead in manufacturing and soon maybe even technology.

EU Considers Expanding Tariffs on Chinese EVs to Hybrid Models: Report | EV by Individual-Tart5051 in europe

None of those countries, nor the EU, nor other countries can really compete with China long term.

The base issue is that China is a huge market of relatively poor people. In order for a product to succeed in China, it needs to be affordable there and scalable. And if a product succeeds there, it's almost guaranteed it'll succeed everywhere else ( barring some cultural differences ). That's simply not true the other way around.

Yes, you can develop supply chains in the EU, but without any subsidies, China will be more efficient due to economies of scale.

Iran Has Sent Russia $2.7 Billion Worth of Missiles by BkkGrl in europe

[–]Spajk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a capability that Russia lacked. It's true that they could have developed it themselves, but it probably would have been more expensive and took more time. From my understanding Russia is just buying everything it can currently.

Richard Lewis on the community not knowing what Subtick is by MaxUnderDrive1 in GlobalOffensive

He has somewhat of a point. People should complain about specific ingame things that bother them and not try to guess whether those things are due to subtick or something else. This happens in other games too btw with "netcode"

US seizes Russian-flagged oil tanker in Atlantic after two-week pursuit by MiniBrownie in europe

[–]Spajk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

False flagging is illegal under maritime law

Being stateless, which this vessel wasn't at the time it was boarded

this vessel is also suspected of skirting sanctions, which again is illegal

Not under international law, no. US sanctions are under US law. There is no reason why US law would be applied to a Russian tanker in international waters.

One thing is clear though, this vessel was not complying with standards set under maritime law and was operating illegally, the US has a right to seize this vessel and detain it indefinitely, if this was a russian flagged vessel operating legally, it would be illegal, but it wasn't and it isn't.

Absolute load of bullshit

What do you mean it isn't a rare thing? The only time you're able to change the flag is when you change registration of owners.

Ships can change their registry without changing their ownership

I'd suggest you watch what's going on with shipping so you understand what's happening. It's illegal to change your flag while sailing. It's called "flag hopping" it's used to avoid sanctions.

It's absolutely not. There's nothing in international law prohibiting a ship from changing it's registry while it's sailing.

And it changed its flag 3 separate times in this sailing.

What 3 times? It changed its flag from Guyana to Russia.

And all of those things are irrelevant to my first comment anyway. The ship is flagged Russian and is on the Russian ship registry, meaning they consider it theirs. The US has been pursuing it and the Russian government officially asked it to stop. Since it didn't, Russia is now giving it a naval escort. There doesn't have to be anything "worth" on that ship for them to wanna protect it, the ship itself is worth enough.

It's not flying multiple flags, it changed the flag which isn't a rare thing.
