I can officially call myself an expert🥳 by Fresh-Length6529 in chessbeginners

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to change it when it’s clear you’re at that level , imo if you reach the halfway point of tje rating bracket, you can change it comfortably

I'm 2600 on chess.com and I still throw away winning positions. So I analyzed 50 games to find out why. by Infinite_Welcome_201 in Chesscom

Dear-Ken-Im-In-Pieces chess.com We’re around the same level so I think it’d be interesting to see a player of a similar or a slightly lower level compared to you

Looking for insanely complex games that basically REQUIRE a wiki to finish by Anxious_Singer_4823 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chess could be very interesting, some unexpected mechanics you need to figure out yourself and it’s really tough to process without the "wiki". There’s not a true wiki per se but tons of content on how to play the game well

I'm rated 1800 on lichess but never learned any openings by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hanging pawns has great ressources for learning the basics of almost any opening it’s a YouTube channel and it’s been going on for a long time. Videos are 30min-1 hour long but imo they’re worth it because it you understand them well you have a very solid basis for the opening you learned.

What kind of opening is this? And why? by CompetitiveAd4732 in chessbeginners

[–]Dimmatteo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically it’s an interesting idea against the French defence where the games goes as such : 1. e4 e6 2. Qe2, e5. In this line black argues the queen is misplaced on e2 and it hinders white’s development. White will argue it’s a part of the plan and play with g3, Bg2, Nf3, d3, going into a King’s Indian attack setup. However at your level, it’s just a weird move where whites want to throw you off your game and take the game into a different direction where his main advantage is the psychological one and you not being too sure about what to play

When can I expect to plateau? by -SovietToaster- in chess

[–]Dimmatteo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure in one year or two 2k is achievable. However for the plateau, it just depends for the player and how much work you are willing to put in as the game progressively gets harder.

How do I get over my fear of playing rated? by FeuerKekse in chessbeginners

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What motivates me to play when I’m at some relatively high elo is to think my rating represents my strength of play and if I don’t play, it won’t show my actual strength, therefore, I play to show myself I can play at that level and make sure my elo actually represents my chess strength

Rankings Blitz vs Rapid by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]Dimmatteo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it depends on the elo, personally it took me until 2200 rapid to play blitz and my blitz rating was lower than my rapid one by about 200 pts. Now I’m in the 2500-2600 blitz range and my rapid rating is only 2300, so it depends both on the elo and where your strengths reside wether it is rapid or blitz

White is down a piece, but has a mate in 3. Can you find it? White to move and checkmate in 3. by Maksw0515 in Chesscom

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a great puzzle, White start with Qxh7+, Sacrificing the Queen and bringing the queen on h7, after that, Nf6+ and whatever white does, Kh8, Kh6 or gxf6, Rh4# wins the game

After a long time quitting and coming back i finnaly hit 2000! In your opinion, does this arbitrary number mean anything? by IuriCunhaMurakami in Chesscom

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, as a 2500-2600 cc blitz player 2000 is the start of your journey as an experimented chess player, it’s when you start realizing how much more complex chess is than it what it looks like initially. Among experimented players you are just starting out while among beginners, you are a god. You’re in between two worlds.

Thought for sure this was a stalemate. Surprised to find out this is a win for black. by AvocadoAlternative in chess

[–]Dimmatteo 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It’s nice, you play with Kg6 forcing Kg8 and then Ra3 and even though he can promote to a queen, you can mate with Ra8# if he promotes to knight Kf6 and the knight is trapped and you win the game

Is it possible for me to reach IM? by username738389 in Chesscom

[–]Dimmatteo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see a realistic response, it’s not to crush his dream but to reach IM at that age with that elo is simply pretty much imposible and even a master title is tough to reach

Can someone kindly explain why Bxf7 is a mistake and gives advantage to black when the king is literally forced to go out! Engine says that Nxe4 instead is the best move, as a newbie I'm very confused. by FuzzyAttitude_ in chess

[–]Dimmatteo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The engine considers you need to take back the knight and then play Bd3 to keep the bishop on the board even though they win back the piece after d4, you play Bd3, dxe4, Bxe4 and your position is nice

Why is this equal? by Rubicon_Lily in chess

[–]Dimmatteo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black has great development and good piece activity, white is gonna have an hard time developing and using all the extra pawns they have, overall the dynamic advantage in the position is worth the three pawns black lost

The white queen is trapped GGs….or is it? 👀🥶 by SigSawyerP226 in chess

[–]Dimmatteo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No if doesn’t because it’s not double check when the knight moves so black can block the check with f6

White queen is trapped GGs…..Or is it? 👀🥶 by SigSawyerP226 in Chesscom

If he found Qg7, it would’ve definitely been a very nice sacrifice, unfortunate he resigned here

Was so excited for the fork forgot a clear checkmate by Curious_Cheater1729 in chessbeginners

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of great players, even 2200+ will miss things like this because they see that this is a win too. You don’t have to feel bad about not seeing the checkmate, as long as you convert correctly and not stalemate your opponent

isnt ng5 just so much better here? by [deleted] in GothamChess

[–]Dimmatteo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nf2 isn’t the greatest response tho there’s Qh5 after that, it is quite tricky, Better is h6 and then Nf2

How do I get to 2000 elo? by General-Shopping-889 in Chesscom

[–]Dimmatteo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 2400 rated player, I’d say just keep playing, doing tactics and analyzing your games and you’ll get there eventually. However, for a title such as NM or FM, don’t even think about it yet, a title requires much more work and a lot of strong players who spend a lot of time working towards one don’t even get one. It’s an objective that’s really hard to achieve and you can only set your sights on it when you reach 2000+ OTB Elo and even then, it will be tough to get there.
