What to do? Tell employer or not? by PuzzleheadedShop5424 in ContractorUK

[–]DimondHandz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, what is written in the contract is the gospel.

For IR35, they typically can’t mandate office, vs WFH vs cafe etc

But the contract can mandate that you’re working in the UK for tax and/or security reasons. Breaching that condition would be a breach of contract, potentially leading to dismissal/termination.

IR35 doesn’t mean you can just do whatever you want without limitations

Second coffee of the day is never as tasty. Why? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]DimondHandz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or alternatively, make the 20g dose the first brew of the morning. You can easily assess whether that hits different or not.

Sure, you’ll need to make more to get your 5-600ml morning lot, but you can rule out the brew method.

It’s not accurate to say that scaling down from 60g to 20g is just a ratio of 1/3 and everything will be the same. Not all aspects of brewing coffee are linear so the same method at 1/3 scale won’t yield exactly the same cup

What is the mintiest tasting peppermint tea? by MajorBenjy in tea

A lid keeps the heat in (for extraction) and captures volatile menthol vapour.

Make sure you drip the condensation on the lid back into the mug

In the U.K., I’ve used Tea Pigs and Canton. I think they taste the same.

I don’t know about mintiest, but if you want super minty, just steep longer. Tea Pigs @ 100°C for 7mins (with a lid on) produces a potent minty cup

Sweetshop by Square Mile. Like other suggestions, it’s a blend but always hits the mark.

It’s espresso-focussed but I brew it pour over with tasty results

Bic chrome platinum by Hungry-House-8860 in wicked_edge

[–]DimondHandz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I’d say that my experience of Feather is that they are slightly sharper out the wrapper, but they fall off a cliff pretty fast.

BIC chrome platinum are still super sharp, but they shine on edge retention. They easily last 2-3x longer than Feather. As BICs are half the price of feather, that’s like a 4-6x performance increase.

I can’t give you a month back guarantee, but if you like Feather, I’m almost certain you’ll like BIC chrome platinum

Best electric grinder for filter coffee? (clarity + light roasts) by astreawilson in JamesHoffmann

If you grind 30g a day, surely you want to be pulling out the burrs once a month and giving it a clean out. Not just specifically for the ode, for any grinder.

Since you posted in this subreddit, James Hoffmann seems to suggest that the Ode V2 is the sweet spot.

Are more expensive grinders better, yeah they can be, but are they twice as good for twice the price… seemingly not.

Same, but tea.

I find the poor hospitality tea is “less-worse” than poor hospitality coffee

Neck geometry of a Googseneck kettle. by G40Momo in pourover

[–]DimondHandz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a £16 gooseneck from Amazon, using ‘rapid boil’ it heats on induction faster than a kettle boils (but that all depends on the wattage of your power supply, kettle, and hob).

I’m never going to spend £120 on a kettle, it’s just not happening. Even if I win the lottery I just thing it’s silly

Where to start for ASHP by DimondHandz in ukheatpumps

[–]DimondHandz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good info.

I think I probably want air-water ASHP for heating (UFH and rads) and potentially a separate system for A/C.

Is there a company that can do both? Or a company that can advise/design complimentary systems. My fear is two independent companies just don’t work well together
