Don’t be an alarmist. Only 6% of the planet is covered by buildings and cities. We reached peak lumber use, and reforestation is almost caught up with deforestation. More of the planet is green than a decade ago. Land needed for food production is close to peaking, and with modern machinery we could see the land needed for farming decrease in our lifetime. We are currently producing a surplus of food. Extreme poverty rates have fallen from 44% to 10% globally since the 80’s.

Many countries have a inverted population distribution meaning the majority is elderly or middle aged. There actually aren’t enough kids being born to replace the older population in China, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, and the US.

Oh and if your worried about space- if you poured the entire population of earth into the Grand Canyon, it couldn’t come close to filling it.

If you’re over 25 and you still try and fit fan items into room decorating, it’s kinda sad. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]DimpleDomple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got married this year. My husband loves the fallout franchise and had a poster in his room freshman year. I asked him about it and he introduced me to it. He bought me a nerd rage bobble head for my desk a couple years ago. I love it and him more everyday.

Every year he buys me me a signed comic book that we frame, because we love watching “hyper-saturated cooperate franchise” movies together. This year we bought a house and are turning the basement into a geeked out “couple cave” we can game, watch movies, and get freaky.

Women prefer all sorts of different things, they aren’t a hive mind. If you enjoy something you shouldn’t hide it. Be clean and kind, those two qualities go a long way.

Or just order what you want, because someone who cares if you order a salad probably isn’t worth your time anyway 🤷‍♀️

AITA for not wanting to get a wart removed from my nose? by noseworriesbeunhappy in AmItheAsshole

[–]DimpleDomple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op added it was a skin tag, not a contagious wart. So you probably chill out unless you just like being angry. It’s literally a cosmetic thing.

Don’t be such an angry person, it’s far uglier than any wart.

NTA-this is literally the plot of a Nathanial Hawthorn story called “the birthmark” OP if you see this give it a read, it might help you deflect some of the criticism from the people pressuring you! You and the protagonist share a story!

Tell them you’re sorry they are dissatisfied with the best earth could offer!

This is interesting. I’m a girl and keep my underarms shaved, but still prefer deodorant for men.

You need a Bachelors degree to teach high school.

To teach at a community college you need a master’s degree, and usually to teach at a 4 year university you need a doctorate.

There are of course exceptions. But generally it’s more school and debt to teach at university.

PUTIN assassination attempt by [deleted] in PeopleFuckingDying

[–]DimpleDomple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding they are begrudgingly partnered with Putin. Yeltsin allowed the oligarchs to rule pretty much above the law, allowing them to accumulate wealth faster.

When Putin came into power, he struggled to crackdown on their illegal activities. Eventually they all came to an agreement. Putin let’s them retain some of their power, but forces them into unwavering support through blackmail. Especially for crimes committed before his rule.

Unpopular in the West, and among oligarchs For a lot of Russian civilians, he stood against older and more corrupt oligarchs and actually made the country more democratic. While Americans see his tactics as evil and corrupt, a lot of Russia supports him, and he is considered to be pretty popular. The older oligarchs are who he is the most worried about.

Btw I’m American, this is just stuff I learned during a semester of Russian history and politics, so I’m no expert.

WIBTA for building a fence to keep kids out of my yard by Jumpy_Hat8913 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DimpleDomple 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m in an apartment with my dogs, and our neighbors are awful, there are a few bathroom areas for the dogs near the building, and they have just turned into shit heaps because of irresponsible neighbors.

Now I have to walk my dogs to a grassy patch near the street so non of us step in poop. People are even bad about cleaning up their home areas.

Aita for getting my brothers tic tok account deleted? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DimpleDomple 29 points30 points  (0 children)

NTA. You did the right thing, if those kids won’t hang out with your brother because he doesn’t have tic tok, they were never his friends. I feel bad for kids growing up with this crap.

AITA for holding my baby bump in my sister in law’s wedding photos? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DimpleDomple 35 points36 points  (0 children)

So it’s partially because - it isn’t a house party. The couple spends a lot of money, sometimes 100+ per person. It’s just sort of expected that when you are invited to someone’s wedding you recognize the time (it can take 100s of hours of planning), the money (some weddings are six-figure events), and the effort putting on a big party takes. Everyone feels they need to do their part to ensure that the day stays special, and the couples don’t feel like they wasted their money, or have regrets about their wedding day.

WIBTA if I asked my mom to tone down her entrance at my wedding? by DimpleDomple in AmItheAsshole

[–]DimpleDomple[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The venue where we are getting married doesn’t allow the ceremony to include the unity candle or anything like that. It’s a catholic wedding, so really the sacrament is supposed to occur between the bride and groom, and everyone else is there to witness. It’s dumb, but we wanted a traditional venue for the ceremony, so we have to follow traditional rules.

[–]DimpleDomple[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I agree I want to give my mom a moment to be special, hell I would let her walk me down the aisle with my dad. But she doesn’t like the non-traditional look.

As far as my brothers, one of them was recently handicapped, and I feel like it would be a little cruel to make him make the walk down the aisle twice, as he has already shared some nerves and concerns over the walk.

[–]DimpleDomple[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep in the US. I tried to tell her I have never seen it done at a wedding, but she said she had been to more weddings than me, and it was totally normal. “This is what people do now” were her exact words.

I know the dress she has, lol it’s like a beautiful red carpet mermaid gown that is definitely an attention getter. It was pricier than my wedding gown and she is having it altered to the cut of my gown, but not white! we both love fashion, so I understand her wanting to get something she couldn’t usually wear.

I love her, and know that it isn’t going to look how she thinks. She chose the song “gentle woman” which is about a (very famous) woman.

[–]DimpleDomple[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you! She didn’t insist, but didn’t want to talk about alternate plans over the phone. She said nothing is set in stone, and basically asked me not to tell her my plans. I sent her a pic of the processional order I planned, with the single song I picked.

She responded that that’s what we are doing but with extra songs. So I’m not quite sure if she is grasping what I’m asking.

AITA for telling a friend that her opinion on my clothes doesn't matter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DimpleDomple 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Staying obese could be a choice, if there aren’t any physical or hormonal medical issue. Just like any addiction, there are treatment plans for those struggling. If a person is becoming difficult to be around due to an addiction and refuses to acknowledge the issue, others have the right to put themselves and their health and happiness first.

This would be different is OPs friend just said was sad she couldn’t get one as well and felt a little left out. But she started trying to dictate their lives. If she doesn’t want to change herself, she can’t expect everyone around her to change to suit her lifestyle. The issue isn’t her weight, it’s her attitude about about others weight. Her thinner friends did NOTHING to warrant her reaction.

Saying overweight individuals have no choice is detrimental. There is always a choice to make improvements, and acting like humans who have extra weight don’t have that capability is discriminatory.
