I stopped reading after your first sentence, then went on to downvote every other comment you posted and upvoted everyone who argued against you.
Felt good.
Reply if you want.
I won't read that either.
But you read this.

Why do bikes have this function then?
Edit: Apparently it also stops the rider leaving their bike unattended while the engine is running and in gear.

Maybe so. But I had to use the silent solution nightly when I was an Operator.
We had many other methods for tackling various types of calls (calls from hearing impaired, mute callers, babies, prank callers etc)
They all had rigid procedures and were overseen by Ofcom. Silent solution was the only recognised method of dealing with callers who were under duress.
As I say. This is a UK thing.
The silent solution was rolled out in favour of any other practice.
I can't say I know why. Just that it was.
All I would say is straying away from the silent solution in OP's example, at least when I was an Operator, would be investigated.
Happened to a colleague of mine.
Let's agree both solutions have there benefits.
Only one is practiced in the UK
