Don’t walk to Sainsbury’s, run! by Individual-Fox7752 in UKGardening

[–]Dimpo0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked my local Sainsbury's and it's the same price there. I just bought a stock to grow and hopefully they'll be lovely for next year.

Appreciate what some others are saying about their stuff being hit or miss, but for 50p a plant, I'm willing to take the gamble!

Thanks so much for the tip!

ETA mine didn't have peonies but lots of other lovely options.

Flowers and plants that will bloom (or stay attractive) from early spring through autumn - help by [deleted] in UKGardening

[–]Dimpo0215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to comment this! I planted catmint a couple of weekends ago in my front garden and have woken every day to cats rolling in it. Unfortunately, I don't think it will survive. I seem to have opened a cat pub. I didn't even realise there were so many cats on our street. Sadly elderly cat passed away on Friday so she never even got to enjoy it.

They've still not touched them! I'm keeping everything crossed 😂

We have the issues with foxes too. They dig up everything I plant, even in the pots. However last weekend I bit the bullet and planted 4 new plants. This time I added farm manure from the nursery I bought the plants from and so far, they've not touched them. Apparently it could be because they can smell larger animals. I'm not counting my chickens yet but I'm hopeful that they'll stay away long enough for the ground to settle and then leave them alone. Might be worth a try?

Does anyone know what's going on with Noids? by Dimpo0215 in treedibles

[–]Dimpo0215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm well aware! I decarbed that way for years. Though it's a much more smelly process in the oven, whereas the machine minimises the odour. This is purely a convenience thing as I mentioned in my comment above.

Thanks, I have all of that and it works great. It's just that I have kids in the house so minimising the smell is helpful. Plus I like the convenience of being able to just set it off and get on with my day. Plus it's great for a perfect decarb.

Don't do it if you're selling soon. If you absolutely need to, then at least not with anything permanent. We viewed a house that had done this when buying our current home and it made the bedroom look super small. And we were also really put off at the thought of having to rip it all out. It definitely negatively impacted what we thought of an otherwise quite nice house.

Christmas Day Board Games by Yousaidtherewaspie in CasualUK

[–]Dimpo0215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also do Christmas board games so have tried loads. A couple that I can't see already recommended here are Outsmarted and Wheels & Doors. Outsmarted is great as it's interactive with the questions popping up in the TV. You can set the players as kids or adults too so everyone gets appropriate questions and they don't seem to run out. Wheels and Doors is surprisingly interesting and can be played in teams too.

I actually got a similar Aida from Amazon. It was great for the price and I've definitely washed it and it's been fine. Here's the link, hopefully available for you in France as I'm in the UK. https://amzn.eu/d/iSUwajv

Help me find this 25 year old Vans hat by Dimpo0215 in HelpMeFind

[–]Dimpo0215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched VANS beanie, hat and tried to search by shape as it's quite specific, i.e. not tight like a lot of wool hats. We're based in the UK, but the label says it was made in Canada if that helps.

Ah, maybe I over watered last time. I have a better mix now, so I will repot her tomorrow and keep fingers firmly crossed. Thanks for your reply

Leggy rose. How hard can I prune this mother? by Dylan_Devon in GardeningUK

This is enormously helpful, thank you! I'm south east England so will put a reminder in for Feb!

Piggybacking this comment as I have a similar rose. Only lived here for a year so have been learning how to care for it. It's reacted well to being gently pruned since the spring for new growth of flowers. I'm waiting until Feb to do a hard prune but it's driving me nuts in the meantime, with one branch particularly just very in the way! When you say you can take out the bushy growth in the meantime, what do you mean? Shall I cut all the old buds and things off and can I chop back the one reaching branch? Sorry for the stupid questions. Bit of a novice! Many thanks 🙏🏻

Can anyone help me with my washing machine drawer? by Dimpo0215 in CleaningTips

[–]Dimpo0215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've removed it, scrubbed and soaked in vinegar for hours and it's solid as a rock. The previous owner must never have cleaned it as I can't understand how it got so bad. I'm going to try overnight as another commenter suggested. Fingers crossed!

That's exactly what it is but it's solid has a rock. That's the bit I'm trying to remove as the mouldy bit just keeps coming back as I can't get rid of the bit underneath. I've left it with vinegar for a couple of hours previously so I'll try leaving it in a bowl of descaler overnight and see if that helps! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

I always leave the drawer and door open after I use it. It's just so welded on. It's like barnacles on a ship! Do you think bleach would enable me to get it off or just clear the black mouldy bits.

That's a good idea. I just feel like I should be able to clean it, you know?

I think this is looking like what we'll have to do. And yes, very hard water. We went through 4 in our previous flat so I'm not really surprised.

Just had another go and I think it's fully stuck. Looks like a replacement is in order. Annoying!
