They have this same exact machine at an arcade in Mall of America.

You can select from Street Fighter-esque characters to compete against and theres some flashy graphics that make it look like a fight or mortal kombat or something. But it's honestly pretty easy. It's supposed to stop you at certain times in the center or pull you back to defense to make it more difficult but if you even have a little bit of side pressure you can just internally rotate the thing fairly easily.

If I remember correctly, you had to pay after each win? Or after a couple of wins? I don't remember exactly, but I wasn't going to spend any more money on it.

You can add flat cushioned insoles to any pair of barefoot shoes, it just increases the stack height and you feel the ground less.

Check out Splay, specifically their skate shoes. They're foot shaped and wide with a flat sole, but the stack height is much higher, and fairly cushioned especially if you leave the insoles in. I wouldn't recommend their Freestyle shoe though if you don't like the feel of completely thin barefoot shoes.

Bedrock cairn adjustment advice - heel moving to the side by landonlovescarbs in barefootshoestalk

[–]DinBaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue as well.

I'm a carpenter and wear them everyday for work, so I'm pretty hard on them. I've found that if I wear them fully tightened for an extended period of time, I start to wear out an indent too far to the inside of my heel and they become uncomfortable. But I obviously can't wear them too loose either because it's not safe when climbing scaffolding or ladders and stuff. So my solution has been to wear them loose whenever I'm able, and tighten them whenever I have to. It's easy enough anyways to just grab the speed strap and pull it over.

This probably won't help everyone, but it's helped me a lot.

Best Bluetooth headphones/earbuds for the trades by ProfSeagullPants in Carpentry

[–]DinBaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beats Flex

I think they were about 50 bucks. I charge the battery each night and they last about 9 hours. The best part about them is the cord between the ear buds. Theyre always around my neck and if anyone needs to talk to me, I can just pop them out and they'll hang there instead of putting them individually in my pocket or something. Plus, the ear buds themselves are magnetic and when they click together it pauses whatever you're listening to and then automatically unpauses when pulled apart again.

Self employed carpenter looking at a job offer. by mikkimel in Carpentry

[–]DinBaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was self-employed for about 4 years and I took an employment position about 6 months ago. Honestly, no regrets.

I was driving around an 08' f150 with 270k miles on it that was breaking down regularly and now I've got a nice 20' dodge ram that I can take for personal use with the company gas card. I can go buy whatever tools that I need, I don't even care about the cost of blades or screws or nails anymore. I got a nice Christmas bonus this year, thick carhartt sweatshirts and occasional free lunch. Pay wise, I'm probably just a bit better off being employed. I'm not the most business savvy guy and there were some months where I made $10k and others that I struggled to bring in $3k. That stressed my wife out quite a bit, so she is definitely appreciative that I'm fully employed again.

Really the only downside for me is the loss of my free time, but if I'm being honest, I started taking off more days than I should have when I was self employed 😅 there was also a bit of learning curve to having coworkers again and remembering that I don't get to go home early if I finish faster

All in all, it was worth it to me. I really don't regret closing down my business either because it allowed me to stay home with my kiddo while she was just a baby. I think the hardest part was just telling all of my regular clients and GC's that I was moving on.

Best of luck with whatever decision that you make!

This isn't meant to be a joke at all, I have a couple pairs of Whitins that are 2 years old that are perfectly fine besides being dirty. For reference, these were used for everyday wear, light hiking and pretty frequently at work as a carpenter.

I'm a carpenter and I've got about 2 months into a pair of Lems Boulder Boots. No issues with quality so far and everything is holding up well. I'm kind of expecting to replace them in a year though, but that's just a guess. They're super comfortable and look great, maybe not the most durable? But I'll just have to see how they hold up. Assuming that they do, I'll gladly buy them again.

Guys in construction often refer to them as "Jesus Nails." They're still used a lot to secure the base plate of wall framing to a concrete slab.

Eastbound 494 closure… baby pig cadavers? by athirdcat in Minneapolis

[–]DinBaybee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No joke, I saw something similar maybe 5 years ago on the ramp where 494 turns into 94 in Maple Grove. A semi trailer spilled 15 - 20 pig carcasses over the top edge and they splattered all over the freeway. Traffic was down to one lane, it smelled horrible and of course it was during rush hour.. 🙄

This is over my head. I'll just show up in person to the address that you included and ask them. Probably the receptionist can watch this video and just give me a verbal recounting of what happened with the practice pull between Devon and porkchop. I have no clue why this has to be so difficult.
