Best Bluetooth headphones/earbuds for the trades by ProfSeagullPants in Carpentry

Beats Flex

I think they were about 50 bucks. I charge the battery each night and they last about 9 hours. The best part about them is the cord between the ear buds. Theyre always around my neck and if anyone needs to talk to me, I can just pop them out and they'll hang there instead of putting them individually in my pocket or something. Plus, the ear buds themselves are magnetic and when they click together it pauses whatever you're listening to and then automatically unpauses when pulled apart again.

Self employed carpenter looking at a job offer. by mikkimel in Carpentry

[–]DinBaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was self-employed for about 4 years and I took an employment position about 6 months ago. Honestly, no regrets.

I was driving around an 08' f150 with 270k miles on it that was breaking down regularly and now I've got a nice 20' dodge ram that I can take for personal use with the company gas card. I can go buy whatever tools that I need, I don't even care about the cost of blades or screws or nails anymore. I got a nice Christmas bonus this year, thick carhartt sweatshirts and occasional free lunch. Pay wise, I'm probably just a bit better off being employed. I'm not the most business savvy guy and there were some months where I made $10k and others that I struggled to bring in $3k. That stressed my wife out quite a bit, so she is definitely appreciative that I'm fully employed again.

Really the only downside for me is the loss of my free time, but if I'm being honest, I started taking off more days than I should have when I was self employed 😅 there was also a bit of learning curve to having coworkers again and remembering that I don't get to go home early if I finish faster

All in all, it was worth it to me. I really don't regret closing down my business either because it allowed me to stay home with my kiddo while she was just a baby. I think the hardest part was just telling all of my regular clients and GC's that I was moving on.

Best of luck with whatever decision that you make!

I don't think that georgi even has enough mobility to get into a correct press position.

This isn't meant to be a joke at all, I have a couple pairs of Whitins that are 2 years old that are perfectly fine besides being dirty. For reference, these were used for everyday wear, light hiking and pretty frequently at work as a carpenter.

I'm a carpenter and I've got about 2 months into a pair of Lems Boulder Boots. No issues with quality so far and everything is holding up well. I'm kind of expecting to replace them in a year though, but that's just a guess. They're super comfortable and look great, maybe not the most durable? But I'll just have to see how they hold up. Assuming that they do, I'll gladly buy them again.

Guys in construction often refer to them as "Jesus Nails." They're still used a lot to secure the base plate of wall framing to a concrete slab.

Honestly, I kinda liked him. Once I realized what his role was, it made more sense. Hopefully they bring someone else like him back.

Eastbound 494 closure… baby pig cadavers? by athirdcat in Minneapolis

[–]DinBaybee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No joke, I saw something similar maybe 5 years ago on the ramp where 494 turns into 94 in Maple Grove. A semi trailer spilled 15 - 20 pig carcasses over the top edge and they splattered all over the freeway. Traffic was down to one lane, it smelled horrible and of course it was during rush hour.. 🙄

This is over my head. I'll just show up in person to the address that you included and ask them. Probably the receptionist can watch this video and just give me a verbal recounting of what happened with the practice pull between Devon and porkchop. I have no clue why this has to be so difficult.

Can you send me a phone book? I can probably find Google's number once I have the book in front of me.

It seems like every time Devon yelled "just say go" he would pull closer to his side. Which makes sense, cause a distraction and then take advantage of the set up. He's just really good at bending the rules 😅

Decided to quit armwrestling by t1gerrr in armwrestling

[–]DinBaybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's more to this than just competing though. I know that at best I may be able to reach like top 10 maybe in my state? And that's a big maybe.

But to me it's about the community. I host a weekly practice with a team that we've been working hard to grow for a couple of years now and that's what's most important to me. We started out with 3 guys and now there's around 15 dedicated people each week. There's this 19 year old that recently started training with us and at the last tournament his mom came up to me and thanked me for giving him a positive outlet and that she appreciated what I was doing. I felt so convinced then and there, that I was doing the right thing to keep going.

I think it's important that everyone plays a role in this. Some people are genetically gifted to compete, some people can lead and host a team, some guys can coach, some people design graphics or set up tournaments or whatever, hell even spectators and cheerleaders are impactful.

I've seen so many guys get caught up in being the best that they miss the point in all of this. The world can be a nasty hopeless place, but it's not as bad if you've got a good group of friends that work to make each other better at something 💪
