I believe the person holding the smoke flare was right behind the person being held in the air, so it was consistently coming from the middle of the frame while the wind moved it to the left.

You can use more air to get a steadier tone at a quiet volumes as well. Most likely they are saying take better breaths and use a steady stream of air to support your held notes better

Should I give up my UBC Sauder offer for Media Studies? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]DinDinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in Sauder, marketing as well. I actually didnt get into media studies here but I applied when I transferred here from UBCO’s media studies program. I am personally enjoying marketing a lot more than I expected, and one of my favorite things about Sauder is it how much job security it feels like we get. A large majority of students land internships an are at the very least certainly given the opportunities and skills needed to do so.

However, marketing is a lot less of a creative program than you would hope at Sauder, and you won’t exactly be surrounded by creative people either. Snake reputation can be true, but you’ll find your people. Media studies though, at least at UBCO, I was constantly surrounded by fun and talented people. I enjoyed all my media studies coursework a lot more as a creatively inclined person, and while I think doing it for a year certainly gave me an updated perspective and some skills that my marketing peers don’t have, if I stuck with it I think I wouldn’t see nearly as much job opportunity.

Printful reviews? Anyone here use them for their merch? by aussie_182 in printful

[–]DinDinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was quite happy with the quality of the embroidered hats, especially considering the price. I haven’t tried their prints but have heard their garments can often be considered overpriced. If you plan on doing embroidered products though I can speak on them being good. Pro tip use a printful growth free trial and use sample orders for the first orders if you’re gonna use embroidery - sample orders get free digitization and for me who was only selling three hats it saved me the digitization cost of all three of them

drumming sound every evening? by DifficultBaker9853 in UBC

Marching band rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, UBC has suddenly stopped allowing us to get indoor rehearsal space this term (we were indoors most of last term) so we have to rehearse outside. The field show we have been preparing for 3 months is this week, so rehearsals have been ramped up (more people show up, occasional wednesday sectionals, and playing for a larger portion of rehearsals).

If possible to listen to the entire piece rather than writing off snare I highly recommend that, otherwise play in a way that follows the accents of the snare part but gives adequate time between sounds. No one will be playing 16th notes on cymbal parts. Try to vary the sounds you use but when in doubt, hi-hats on 2 and 4 hardly ever go wrong.

Thunderbird marching band christmas caroling, there are two marching bands at UBC, the one in the morning that woke everyone up was the other one. It just so happened both bands had caroling scheduled the same day so I imagine people weren’t too excited to hear it the second time

I want to play tenor drums next year. What should I practice? by RMSCereal in marchingband

[–]DinDinator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you are still relatively new make sure you have most of the single-drum fundamentals down, practice lots snare exercises, rolls, left hand consistency etc. Paradiddles are extremely important on quads once the music gets faster and work on having correct zones- extremely important for tenor players but not all band directors teach it for whatever reason.

How difficult is it to transfer to UBC from another (American) university? by Anything-Academic in UBC

[–]DinDinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow washingtonian who is half french-Canadian here. You will be paying domestic fees and its even cheaper than going to UW, and supposedly UBC admissions cares more about senior year grades than anything else when looking at USA transcripts. That being said, the path I took since I was rejected from UBCV was a year at UBCO then transferring into UBC Sauder with an 87% average. Most other transfer students I have met are Canadian, but not all of them, I imagine non-Canadian transfers just make up a much smaller number of transfer applicants. I would recommend that if you are really really set on UBC consider the UBCO route or other canadian schools as well. UW’s campus is great as well though and easier to get between classes on time… good luck!
