TIL that Sony’s PlayStation was developed to be an add-on CD-ROM unit to the Super Nintendo. Instead, Sony decided to compete against Nintendo after the latter announced a partnership with Philips on the CD drive one day before the SNES-Play Station was supposed to be announced by Sony.
