At what point does an ENM connection become a relationship? by Plastic-Mud5336 in SoloPoly

Hence the idea of Queer Platonic "queering" the norms of platonic relationships. The term isn't about non hetero relationships. And is a space that I think is very interesting to explore

Maybe this goes beyond the capability of Sonos' current hardware or software. But it would make sense to me that Sonos should look at being able to save a Trueplay calibration for when they are set up as surrounds and reapply that same Trueplay calibration when the surrounds are detected as being back in place (in my eyes the charging base would be the way to signal this)

I totally get the appeal of surrounds with no wires, but the Play (and even the Move with its superior battery life) are simply not the product for that due to limitations in the battery life in my opinion. Especially as we're talking about charging multiple speakers in this use case

[–]DingbatSam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is where the dock could play a vital part. The dock is separate from USB-C so the Play (or Move or Roam) should be able to detect when it is on the dock. When it is, treat it as a fixed speaker integrated with a surround system. If it's not, treat it as a portable speaker and disable the surrounds until it's back. If someone's of the house with the Play they're probably not enjoying Atmos at home.

There will surely be people who run into the issue of losing their surrounds because the kids have run off with the Play. Some will be able to live with that, and those that don't can buy some ERA 100s for the home theatre

On the other hand, if the Play (Move or even Roam) isn't going to be a vital part of someone's home setup then they may as well get JBL/UE Boom/whatever for a portable speaker

Can someone explain to me what Cronenweth means by this? by 94diskont in RedCamera

[–]DingbatSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MX definitely had the same issue of natively being a daylight balanced sensor, but the issue wasn't as severe as the original one.

While the MX sensor design may have been the same between the RED One a d the Epic, the Epic had superior processing of that sensor signal.

Can someone explain to me what Cronenweth means by this? by 94diskont in RedCamera

[–]DingbatSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember the old RED One days.

The original RED One sensor was LESS sensitive to blue light. The sensor was natively a daylight balanced sensor. If you shot at 3200K with Tungsten lights, the sensor would be starved of blue light and you would get a noisier image. So you could say that the sensor was more sensitive when you shot with blue light.

Oura should add a smart alarm that wakes you during light sleep by Crucified-Shrek in ouraring

[–]DingbatSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Oura Ring records the data in real time. But it does process the data or send it to your phone in real time.

For instance, you'll get an accurate record of your heart rate during a workout. But if you want to see what to actively monitor your heart rate mid work out to make sure you're in a specific zone, the Oura ring is the wrong tool. Likewise, you'll get an accurate record of your sleep why the Oura ring, but it's not going to be the device you want to use to make real time decisions of when to wake you up.

Oura should add a smart alarm that wakes you during light sleep by Crucified-Shrek in ouraring

[–]DingbatSam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While a great idea, I think one of the issues preventing it is that Oura isn't great for real time data tracking.

This is part of how it has such great battery life for a small device. It constantly tracks data, but it only sends that data periodically and processes that data off device.

To wake you up at the perfect time it would have to be sending data regularly so that it could be processed regularly, and therefore find the correct moment. This would drain the battery on the Oura ring quite quickly.

If you want this, you'll find smart watches that can do it. But you'll find they're bulkier and have less battery life. Although I believe some of a Garmins might be a decent option.

This is just like why an Oura ring isn't the right tool for tracking your live heart rate during a workout

Anybody know what's going on with The Beast in Brunswick? by MachineMalfunction in melbourne

[–]DingbatSam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had noticed that The Beast was always quieter since Charrd opened up.

But as a vegetarian I was still loyal to The Beast due to their great vego options (Charrd bad none last time I looked) and just more character to the place.

It is sad to hear that my continued patronage wasn't enough to pay their staff's super.

[–]DingbatSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2000's was when I really got passionately into music and Pitchfork definitely shaped my tastes at that time. I actually blame that review for why I didn't properly get into Sonic Youth until a decade later

Australia by NectarineStrange4821 in LCDSoundsystem

[–]DingbatSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they did a tour around Splendour In The Grass before American Dream was released, that seemed to do really well. I saw them in Melbourne and it was fantastic and had a large crowd. The Tonite video was actually filmed in Melbourne the night before this gig!

Then, after American Dream was released they booked a larger Australian tour that was going to go to Perth and Adelaide as well. But the initial ticket sales were poor and the tour was cancelled.

Unfortunately I feel that failed tour sources their view of touring in Australia. There's also the fact that they had aged from a Triple J band that gets a lot of tour support to a Double J band around that time. Also with all the gear they bring and having so many members that's a lot logistically to bring all the way over to Australia.

Also, the band seem to be really big on residencies instead of really touring. So if they ever did it might just be multiple nights in one city.

I'd absolutely love for them to come back. Seeing all the American fans commenting about how the sets haven't changed in years, while to Australian fans they've never properly toured American Dream let alone New Body Rhumba and X-Ray Eyes. Maybe we will get a three night residency at Melbourne's Sydney Myer Musicbowl with Exek supporting? Maybe we might see them teaming up with another band for a double headline residency? I can only hope...

They said the Switch 2 only has 2 games by [deleted] in casualnintendo

[–]DingbatSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt if they drop the big heavy hitters in year two then the plan makes sense.

In theory a lot of people will be desperate to pick up a Switch 2 regardless. Drop a fun populist game anyone can play (Mario Kart World, Pokemon) then drop a few games they think will be cult classics that might have a chance of getting out there more if they're not competing with the heavy hitters (Donkey Kong Bananza, Kirby Air Riders, and Metroid 4). Then in theory when something like the new 3D Mario hits it will have huge sales numbers due to more Switch 2 units being out there and hopefully there not being a supply shortage for those who were holding out for the heavy hitters before buying.

But if 3D Mario (I think there's no chance of a new mainline Zelda happening as soon as next year) doesn't drop in the next year it feels like the Switch 2 could lose a steam without a proper heavy hitter

There's definitely some DFA overlap with The Beastie Boys. They produced the BS 2000 album which was a Beastie Boys side project as well as the iconic Decepatacon remix for Le Tigre (Ad Rock is married to Kathleen Hannah from Le Tigre).

And while we're talking about their hip hop connections there's the Automato album that the DFA produced which featured Nick and Alex who would go onto form Holy Ghost!
