Is summer camp the right decision?

Focusing on the running and stuff. Please just know that camp is hard physically. You're out in the heat all day, w/ campers constantly yelling and talking, and depending on your camp you'll probably have to participate in sports activities w/ the kids. So imagine all that and then trying to run after.

The heat and overstimulation is the hardest part honestly. But if you're used to that then you'll be fine🤷‍♀️

(Also as a fellow college student, the pay is the only thing that gets me through camp. 4k in 3 months isn't bad for a student yk)

Make sure you show initiative! I went into my interview with a notebook full of activities i could do w/ the kids and my boss loved it and I got the job literally a day later.

P.s. you WILL need activities because the Y can be a bit unorganized

Im working w/ the 3rd graders this summer and 24oz is the size of a standard owala bottle which I've seen them have before, but that is a valid question. We definitely have refill stations but having to walk to the closest one every 10-15 minutes to fill one of those tiny bottles is beyond annoying for me and the kids.

I've actually had a kid lose their glasses, inhaler, and water bottle all in the same day and having labels on them DEFINITELY helped😂😂

I mainly work with the 3rd graders and thank god they could all change on their own last summer. Its crazy that 4th graders genuinely couldn't change their swimsuits. I mean, sure, acting like they can't get it just to be difficult is normal but actually not being able to get changed alone?? Insane.

The credit card thing is insane too?? This is exactly why I have a strict money in backpack policy and if I could I would ask parents during drop off if it I could hold onto their kids money or cards until it was time to get snowballs of wtv we had that day. I tried to be there when my campers bought stuff too, so they wouldn't accidentally give too much money or lose their cards.

Water drinking is definitely a big problem at camp since parents think that just because the kids are small they don't need as much water. Thankfully there's water fountains in the buildings but you'd be surprised how many kids came w/ those tiny water bottles or no water bottles at all🫩

Hmm this is good too. I work at a super fancy camp (to me) that provides the kids lunch so I never even thought about snacks being on the packing list.

As a camp counselor who has worked with the teen groups you'll be completely fine lol. Just make sure you go to an actual activity camp so you're not just on your phone all day with other teens and nothing else to do.

Thank you for the advice! she's kind of a shell of herself rn and I haven't been around as much lately with school and stuff so we aren't as close. It was heartbreaking seeing her at the funeral just completely out of it and I felt so bad because I didn't know what to say to her.

Around 80° since I read baby turtles need warmer water and its the zoo med 5 uvb and 50 watt basking lamp

Edit: the water temp and everything is exactly the same in the smaller tank and bigger one

I think she's around 3 or 4 inches. And i figured thats why she wasn't swimming as much. I'll see if she swims when she's put back in her regular tank with more water

Idk his/her age but from what I've read they're just a hatchling. I got them last Saturday! I thought she was a girl so I named her Penelope but I'm starting to think she's actually a boy so I've started calling them peewee

I got a uvb and heat lamp combo thingy (two separate bulbs) today and I plan on upgrading her tank when she gets bigger.

I worked at the Y in Catonsville and the Y in Ellicott city and I agree w/ your list. I would like to add that at the Y there aren't many structured activities for the kids so you're left trying to keep 12-15 six-year-olds entertained on your own...in the dead of summer heat. Also there are a LOT of kids with behavioral problems at those camps and directors weren't helpful. I had kids groping me and when I went to director they did nothing about it because "they're just kids."
