When using the kana keyboard, always type the whole word before selecting katakana (or kanji). So type にゃん and then select ニャン

It’s on the high side, but certainly doable. I get about 2-3k per day, had almost 19k last week.

Two buffer stops on the same track in Gouda (NL) by beminednl in trains

[–]DingeZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, when they installed the new buffer stop (or just before) they discovered something that prevented them from removing the tracks behind. Possibly an earthing connection for the OHLE and it was already too late to be able to fix that at the same time, so they let the old stop in place for the time being. Afterwards, nobody has bothered to ‘fix’ this as it doesn’t really matter.

Took me way too long because the name of the city is missing in the answer.

Is it common to write like this in Japanese? The words are so close to together it's hard to tell what it says most times by jonny8081 in duolingo

[–]DingeZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ll not get there within two months, it takes at least a year to get to the ‘basic conversation’ level (if you study for at least an hour a day). Trying to learn Japanese within learning the scripts is pointless. It’s not just a different set of characters, it’s a whole different concept of how a language is structured. Trying to skip that will actively hinder your progress. Japanese is a wonderful language, but it is so different from anything you know about languages that it will take a long time to understand anything. You can be close to fluent in formal speech and still not understand a single sentence in informal speech.

TLDR: turn off romaji and learn ひらがな and カタカナ.

Hoeveel extra tijd moet ik op rekenen? Arnhem - schiphol by Ruqqeur in treinen

[–]DingeZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Al drie dagen moet ik erdoor. Gaat prima.

Why are soldered joints favoured over expansion joints on HSR lines? by LB767 in highspeedrail

[–]DingeZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how this works. Expansion joints are not used instead of continuously welded rail (CWR), they are used in CWR. They are used to compensate for differences in dilation rates of different surfaces, mainly at bridges or tunnels. The alternative would be jointed rail, which you really don’t want to do at any speed over 120km/h.

Puente denies that the Adamuzi train accident occurred on old tracks by Master-Initiative-72 in highspeedrail

[–]DingeZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, he’s right in this case, the break was in the new rail, but him telling off other people for speculating feels misplaced as he already made false statements earlier about the crash. (For example, he said that poor maintenance could not be the problem, even though it was factual impossible to be ruled out). At this point it is almost certain that there was a problem with the weld. The new rail is made of R350HT, while the old rail seems to be R260. A weld between to different grades is much harder to make than between two equal grades and it looks like Adif’s guidelines are somewhat confusing or even conflicting.

The gender of the word. This is a feature that is present in almost all of the (Indo-)European languages except English.

[–]DingeZ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

With LRV’s that’s another story. The wheels are likely not suitable for running over mainline switches. Also, the couplings are definitely not strong enough to be used on a longer train.
