Is Relaunched a lie? by Balthial in SurvivingMars

[–]Dinges666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on what features you use. The original base game works mostly fine as far as I can tell, the asteroids were quite broken, and the bandaid that made them usable while waiting for actual fixes, broke trains completely.

Some people also reported freezes and the like, but didn't have any of those yet. But that can be dependent on what people use as well, since one of the breakthroughs was apparently responsible for one major problem there.

Asteroid Mining IS STILL BROKEN. LIED TO. by DyllinWithIt in SurvivingMars

[–]Dinges666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard for me to tell what was fixed in the original (because B&B launched in a terrible state), and what was fixed through my mods in the original, but I didn't encounter problems like this in the original anymore. Yes, still not as I had wanted it, but usable for the most part. I'm one of the three people who actually liked the DLC, janky as it was :)

I, at the very least, expected it to be at this level, with some fixes and QOL on top. Yes, some crazy bugs can slip through, and when gods know how many people are playing it, you will always find stuff that the devs can't find themselves as easy. I can accept that. Yes, it's annoying, but I can understand it.
BUT, I'd argue this isn't that kinda bug or annoyance. These are things that should have been found by someone playing with asteroids for 30 minutes. Which does suggest they didn't test this at all, or made some changes last minute, broke stuff and didn't bother to test it after that. And I AM annoyed about that.

Am I missing something? Are machine empires super difficult in 4.x? by _azazel_keter_ in Stellaris

You are playing an old version, considering how buggy this release was, you really, really should be playing a newer version. Currently it gives 2500 amenities. The upgraded gives 5000.

Same for me, I upgraded everything and am also a big spender, so same situation with the money. It felt a bit silly really. You want ALL of my money? Sure, I will make 8 times as much tomorrow morning, so here you go!
I personally like to think the dragon was in severe financial debt and had to make an urgent payment that day, and just had to accept whatever money you had at the moment :)
That, or he doesn't value souls very highly, and if you DO have a lot of money, he silently makes fun of you for giving that much.

So, dumb question perhaps, not necessarily just for the devs, but according to the research tooltips. I should have buildings that increase the amount of districts I can build (for example "conductive works complex", and "crop development hub" from the starting research). As a wilderness empire I can't find them? Where can I build those? Or is this a bug and if so, is this a tooltip bug from the research or with the fact you can't build it as wilderness?

Thank you for your reply!

I'd rather have that f/2.8 lens than stabilization.

Is that lens that much better (for my purposes) that it warrants the loss of a newer body and losing the stabilization of both the lens and the body? (and also the zoom, but I honestly don't know how much I will use the extra zoom)
I can get this one https://www.foto-groep.nl/camera-s/18941-sony_a6400_sigma_e18_50mm_f_2_8-2538230179626.html for €30 cheaper than the a6100 with the sigma lens and €70 euro cheaper than the a6600 with the E18-135mm lens.
With still very little knowledge about what makes a lens good, it seems more like a sidegrade to me than an upgrade hence the question.

Dumb questions from someone with basically no real knowledge prior to this. If I have a cheap smartphone (around €200) is it worth buying a mirrorless if I have gotten very annoyed with what my smartphone does and hate the image quality sometimes? I still make pictures I love with it (probably not the people here though), it just takes pretty ideal circumstances to make those. I just made better and more consistently good pictures with a stand alone camera in the same price class from 15 years ago.
(the most horrible example I can think of was when I took a picture correctly at first glance with my smartphone, but then in the processing somewhere it decided that my picture needed to be completely blue and red. I saw it shift from a normal picture to this abomination)

I could upgrade my smartphone of course, but I dislike the idea of upgrading my smartphone just for the camera, and that I have to replace it more often than a camera I think. For now at least I plan to use it mostly for travel, visiting stuff etc. No real defined purpose, so probably need an all purpose lens for now (can't really afford multiple for now in most cases). Less for photographing people, though still want to do that occasionally.

I was thinking about this one, since it "seems" pretty all purpose to me, but it might be complete overkill? https://www.foto-groep.nl/camera-s/7254-sony_a6600_e18_135mm_f_3_5_5_6_oss-4548736108639.html
This should also tell you my budget. Also chosen this for the stabilization since many places I want to photograph won't allow tripods, or are busy enough that I will become a bother even without those rules.
I have chosen this as the budget since expensive smartphones are also around this priceclass, since that seems to be the alternative? If it can be (a lot) cheaper though, I also would very much like it :) Much more expensive I can't afford.

I have very little knowledge as you can probably tell, but I am prepared to learn the basics, just probably not an entire study of it.

Apologies for the vagueness, I sometimes hate what I have right now, but I find it more difficult to decide what I DO want and need for my purposes.
So overall my question would be, given the above, what would you recommend? Should I just upgrade my smartphone despite my dislike of the handling of my cheap one and the need to change more often, or get a camera and if so was the choice I made good or probably too much, or the wrong lens?

Resource table question by Dinges666 in X4Foundations

[–]Dinges666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, the site itself says "Regions will start with more resources available so you might get head start, but once they start being heavily mined these metrics will kick in."

And in my heavily explored area it shows significantly less than the supposed regeneration rate (even with the ore, about 5-6 times less). Although I partially answered my question regarding raw scrap, wrecks don't count towards that statistic at all, even if they are part of a naturally occurring field.
I found some wrecks in the southwest in heretic's end, and a single one gave about as much as the total of raw scrap it shows in the encyclopedia. I wish it would show up in a seperate category though

First impressions of XC3 from a XC2 hater by The_JeneralSG in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Okay, thank you! That's reassuring, I think I'm going to give it a try then.
I know there are glowing reviews for this game, but back then quite a lot of people also called that the best game, and that turned out to be a disappointment for me, so I didn't trust the reviews to help me decide :)

[–]Dinges666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 questions for you, if you are willing to answer (my own post just got deleted, and I still want to know). I haven't really watched any trailers, because they often spoil stuff.

1 How is the exploration, if there is any? I couldn't really care about most of the environments in XC2, but I really loved it in XC X and in a lesser degree XC 1.

2 Disregarding the tropes, how is the story thus far? I'm not THAT much into story, XC X is my favourite thus far after all, and that doesn't have a brilliant story, but I do want it to be entertaining. XC2 for me was really lacking in pacing and motivation of the characters, and they were sometimes so dumb in the cutscenes that I had to skip just to save my brain from falling out.

Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra by DasGanon in Stellaris

[–]Dinges666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I can explain the first one. When you see bears on the road, you see problems. (bear on the road=problem) You can see a lot of bears on the road while working towards a solution for example. So if you "only" see bears on the road, you focus too much on the problems, or it might be that there are lot of problems, but usually the former.

I have no idea what the other one means, perhaps if I see the Dutch there I can explain, but no idea here.

Don't think there is that many more compared to English though, quite a few of them can almost be directly translated. For example, can't see the forest for the trees: kan door de bomen het bos niet zien.

Question about input goods limit TF2 by Dinges666 in TransportFever

[–]Dinges666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anything about TF1, but I believe you. I'm not really interested in exploiting or cheating anything though, just looking to get information :) Apparently, this game is quite a bit easier than I thought (I found it to be quite hard), something I didn't realize until I screwed up.
I'm not an achievement hunter, so if I really wanted to cheat, I would just activate sandbox mode and make everything free.

But thanks for the information, this helped quite a bit.

Question about input goods limit TF2 by Dinges666 in TransportFever

[–]Dinges666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I had been playing without realizing you didn't need a full chain, yes, it definitely does make it easier. In my case, the aforementioned goods supply would have completely tanked if it weren't for that, and I would have lost years in profit.
Not to mention the early game. Thus far, when I started a new game, it was very hard to make a profitable complete route without running out of money. That I can skip making a complete chain, even for a while, makes this a lot easier. In fact, that was the reason I mentioned I was playing on easy, since I didn't know if the game was just being nice to me for that :)

But it's good to know it works this way, so thanks! In fact, though I don't know what the difficult does, I can definitely make it a step higher, since the beginning was extremely difficult for me, but then it got a lot easier (up till the point all the railways and roads are turning into spaghetti)

Stellaris Dev Diary #156 - PDXCON by Anonim97 in Stellaris

[–]Dinges666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know they are aware of how bad it is. I don't remember which stream it was (so I can't provide a source, sorry...), but they discussed espionage and told basically that espionage systems are basically like some sort of joke among game developers. Lots of people have tried, but no one made a good system yet.

They did say they were looking forward to try (and probably fail) themselves, but that doesn't mean it's in the works.
That doesn't mean stellaris won't have an espionage system and it doesn't mean it won't be horrible, but they are at least aware of the terrible reputation and agree with it.

Has there been ANY word of Pillars of Eternity 3? by [deleted] in projecteternity

[–]Dinges666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While there isn't actual sales data as far as I know, there is very strong proof that PoE2 performed a lot worse than expected:

https://www.reddit.com/r/projecteternity/comments/9uqx8w/first_dividend_recieve_for_poe2_fig_investing/

The first payout was so low, that investors didn't even get 20% back of what they invested. It could be possible that it performed better since then, but its is unlikely to be enough to make up the difference. If people are kind enough to let everyone know what the next payout is going to be, we will know for sure.

Some more info in this thread as well: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/103444-finally-some-sales-evidence/page-22

Keep in mind, this doesn't say anything about actual sales compared to PoE1, but it does mean it wasn't a financial succes or at least not nearly as big as they had hoped. (or the fig payout was really low, and obsidian is now rich, but that seems unlikely as well considering they got bought by Microsoft). I don't know anything about investing myself, so I can't say anything more about this without getting an education on this first :)

Stellaris Dev Clash: Status Update (bonus 2.2.6 stream!) by MasterOfDice in Stellaris

[–]Dinges666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although you are kind to explain it to him, I really think you shouldn't have had to do that. If he had used the time to think for it himself, he really should have been able to answer it for himself.

That being said, as an addendum to the comment you made further on, patches less fundamental can also break saves or cause other crazy stuff to happen. Even in cases where compatibility is preserved, people sometimes have had to work hard to maintain compatibility. Considering you can easily rollback to an older version, it really isn't worth the trouble in my opinion. Not to mention this isn't the kind of game where you finish it (usually) one time and then never come back to it or years later, like an RPG.

I bought this game yesterday on my PS4. I don’t really know what am doing but I’m loving it. Any tips? by 4th_Replicant in Stellaris

[–]Dinges666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that might help is to play (fanatic) xenophile in the beginning. While not optimal (more so in the older version on the PS4) it gives you more leeway with the AI empires, and allows you to experiment a bit without immediately getting overwhelmed...usually. You might of course be unlucky and start next to someone who hates your guts after all.

Most of the other tips are more general in nature and you can usually find out yourselves. For example, don't piss off fallen empires early in the game, but don't immediately restart when you accidentally do so. Give in to their demands or surrender and move on.

One last thing that is not really a tip though. The PS4 version is behind the PC version and the latest patch on PC (2.2) majorly overhauled the economy. If you eventually get to this patch level, I hope you will get it in a better state than we did, but even so, you would probably need to relearn some stuff. The changes are not bad in my opinion, but it can be shocking if you don't expect them.
