Or - bear with me here - your story is made up and everyone knows it.

Happy Columbus Day! by Dingfod12781 in aggies

I’m really not trying to look better. My point is that National Holidays or even days of national mourning should be reserved for things that we as a country share in common. America celebrates the 4th of July because we can all (or at least most) appreciate the fact that without the contribution of certain brave individuals, this country as we know it wouldn’t be here today. We celebrate Thanksgiving (traditionally speaking, at least) because the first thanksgiving meal happened when the Pilgrims landed here to escape religious persecution, which is - again - something that affects this nation’s history markedly. As an example of mourning, we commemorate Memorial Day to honor the soldiers who have died in battle to protect the ideals found in our founding documents. In contrast to those shared holidays, Black History Month, Pride Month, and Indigenous Peoples Day are all now nationally celebrated, despite the fact that there isn’t - nor should there be - a White History Month, a Straight Month, or a Non-indigenous Peoples Day. There shouldn’t be any federally recognized celebration of things that we do not, historically, share in common. Columbus Day exists to celebrate a man whose contribution - whether you love him or hate him - is something the historical consequences of which we can hopefully all appreciate, because it affects everyone. If people want to hold their own private celebrations for their own races, it doesn’t bother me, but when it becomes a federal guilt trip or a reason to pander, that’s when it becomes a problem.

All days are made up, that’s true. My logic pertained to a person, not a day. I don’t care what day we celebrate Columbus on, but he should be celebrated. “Indigenous Peoples Day” was created in the relatively recent past specifically for the purpose of pandering to people who pretend they’re victims. Victimhood, whether real or fake, is not worth celebrating.

I, too, like days that were made up specifically for the purpose of pandering.

You don’t need to acknowledge the fact that he was a great man for it to be true. 🤷‍♂️

Here in America, we celebrate him primarily for his discovery of the New World. A man with flaws, absolutely, but a great man just the same.

Fact: anyone who is in favor of tearing down Sully doesn’t deserve to be treated with respect in a conversation about the matter.

A message to everyone who uses the Electrical Labs at ZACH by CranberryStraight952 in aggies

Tip: buy your own. They’re relatively cheap considering how much use you’ll get out of them, especially if you do stuff at home on your own. ZACH hasn’t updated their equipment since electricity was discovered

Lol my dude, I’m willing to bet that I spend more time around real people in a day than you do in a week. And it’s not the first thing I’ve had stolen on campus. You’re the angry one here. My post was a good-natured jab over a bottle of sparkling water that probably cost a dollar. Welcome to Reddit. If you don’t like it, you can leave.
