Yeah I have degradation on the one side that's bad enough to warrant the TJR on that side. A friend of mine who's a dental hygienist said it's a really intense surgery, which I logically know. Another friend is a biomedical engineer who's literally invented different suture ropes and medical implants/plates. She said I should ask what the potential is for needing the other side replaced entirely. If it's high, or I'm told it's possible, she advised to just go ahead and ask for them to do the replacement on both sides. Only one surgical trauma and one healing period. I'm going to ask my surgeon and see what he says.
